Solve an argument on paint for me

I was always under the impression that Vallejo Model Colour and Vallejo Game Colour acrylic paints were two completely different types of paint. The VMC being more matte and highly pigmented and the VGC being more of a plastic resin type base for protecting metal gaming minis a little better.
Can anybody in the know shed some light on this for me and solve a year long discussion in the process.
When I have asked for a particular VMC paint and none is in stock the shop assistant will try to give me a corresponding VGC paint if possible. I politely say thanks but no thanks as they are not the same thing. Is this so?

Yes you are correct, they are completely different formulations.

Game colour is basically a colour clone of GW\'s range and is harder wearing.

Model colour is more natural colours but is less hard wearing.

They are both acrylic latex paints. Same as craft paints, interior house paints and some exterior house paints. Differences are in flow improvers, pigment grinds, binders, retarders, and a host of other additives. (anti-mildew agents in some house paints for example.)

However. There is more binder in the VGC line than the VMC line. Neither will stand ongoing handling like a normal game piece will receive without some sort of exterior protection - varnish, laquer, polyurethane, etc.
