Some bad news concerning Spyglass

Yes is really sad to see as Steve is one of my favourite sculptors.

BUT

The Spyglass range to date will be available through Heresy miniatures and Steve says he will still be sculpting and has a few ideas to work with.

So while it is sad that sales didnt pay the bills it looks like Steve will be able to sculpt his unique figures instead of churning out generic crap. ( no offence to makers of generic crap )

I am looking at it as a new beginning.
:(:D

I only know of Steve through the forums, but he seems like a super great guy. I feel bad for him. But, it takes a smart person to be able to spot trouble and a courageous one to make a change.

This hobby can be challenging enough WITHOUT having to worry about it paying the bills.

I hope that things work out a little better for you Steve. I\'ve always admired your talent as a sculptor and even been somewhat jealous. I\'m glad that the Spyglass figures will still be avaiilable and through another great team. I\'m just sorry that one of my favourites is not going to be able to maintain it as a sole business.

Steve: Will you still be available for Commissions?

Well, CMON was the first to carry spyglass. Funny thing is Steve used to sell more Spyglass when we had an exclusive than when Steve started to let others carry his line.

Sad to see his line go away, but we will keep Spyglass in the CMON store. I saw this coming, and I assured Steve that I will keep the line in CMON store for as long as he will supply us.

Well, I\'m certainly not retiring from sculpting. So, the industry has not seen the back of me. Not yet.

Spyglass will indeed still be available here at coolmini. This site sold Spyglass before anyone else. In fact they\'ve been selling the figs longer than I\'ve sold them direct. And, yes, when coolmini was the only supplier in the world for them they sold more than every single on of my retailers combined at the moment. A surprising statistic but then check out the top ten best sellers on the cmon store. Spyglass is pretty well represented.

As for commissions, possibly. I have a few things I am working out with regards to my future and I don\'t wan to go offering my services all over just yet but it\'s possible. I\'ll know more about my situation in January hopefully.

I\'m sorry to hear this, too. I bought several of the line, back when I could afford to buy, still, and hopefully, I\'ll be able to get hold of more.

Good luck in future endeavours, Steve.
We\'re glad to hear that you aren\'t quitting sculpting altogether, too.

Steve you bastard. Seriously though, I always thought that 54mm sci-fi would sell better than fantasy. I am always on the lookout for =][= bits. It\'s a sad day indeed, but I\'m glad there is still a chance for new stuff in the future.

I\'ve only painted a couple of SJB\'s models, but they\'ve always been fun to do. Very inspiring sculpts, and his own personal collection of conversions and paintjobs is incredibly inspiring as well.

Overall one of the nicest, best liked people in the community if you ask me.

I wish you all the best in the future Steve, and may God bless you financially so that you can continue to do what you love, and share that joy with us all by keeping the model range available.

Good Luck Steve

Very sorry to hear the news about Spyglass. However, when a business just isn\'t bringing in the moolar, then it\'s time to make some tough decisions and I, like everyone else here respect yours. It was obviously a tough one to make.

Hopefully once the dust has settled and things are more relaxed, you can continue with the odd (yep I meant that in the truest sense of the word!) sculpt here and there to keep your fans going :D With the pressure off, you may find a new lease of creativity ;)

Wishing you every luck for the future and that 2006 brings the new start you wish for.

Take care

What a bloody shitter. You sculpt to match your painting technique and it was a lovely symbiosis (is that right?) to see it all together. Good luck with the future plans dude.
