Some Dark Angel Fun

The Dark Angel commander took far longer than it probably should have, but I\'m pretty pleased with all the little details. The tabard and back banner are green stuff with freehand. I came across the wings for the helm by lucky coincidence while flipping through the GW bits catalogue... they\'re from some High Elf guy.

I\'m a little disappointed that the tiles showed up too dark as I did some fancy-schmancy freehand cracks all over them.

And not really his retinue, but a clean up of some older figures I had. Rebased, added some basic highlights. Big improvement! Maybe I should go through all my older figures and update them. Was certainly a refreshing change from starting a figure entirely from scratch (since I really hate painting base coats for some strange reason).

like the mini, although the wins on the helmet dont seem to blend in, thay stand out too much, mabye if they were of a band of the same colour or the edge of the wing(the bit the feathers are attached to) was the same colour as the helmet, other then that very good

Can\'t fault the paintjob, but I\'m with the others on the helmet wings.

I think they may be a bit to far forward or too open, it makes him look like he\'s got funny ears.

Dark Angels:drool::drool::drool:!!!! Yeah!!!!.... I am calm now, they look really nice. I like how the commander came out, especially the part that it was scratchbuilt from a regular marine (like my ravenwing chaplain) is my favorite part. I don\'t really want to but I have to jump on the bandwagon with the ears (I would have drove the bandwagon if I had seen the thread earlier)... not much as they dont fit the mini, in my opinion they are just put on the wrong angle, both horizontally and vertically. I think they should be a bit more pointing up towards the sky and from the front, they should look more like they are hugging the helmet, maybe a wreath around the helmet (like the Lion Helm) would have helped with the rough transition everyone is complaining about. Sorry about the straight forwardness, but that is my honest opinion about this particular mini. This is how I like people to talk to me about mine, whether I am going to change it because of them is a different story but... You know how I feel about your style I love it!!!

I like them and I have to say that the wings on the helm, although ridiculously large, are pretty much in character with a lot of the other Dark Angels stuff, so no problem there.

The problem for me is that being a big fan of the Mighty Boosh all I can think of when I look at the little dude on the banner is \'Look deep into the Parka\'. Now this is probably confusing to you, but check out the preview video of their live show here and watch out for the chap in the Parka. That\'s what I see when I look at the banner. Not so dark and enigmatic!

The armour is also a little flat, and could benefit from some more zenithal highlights too, but all in all bloody good work.

Agree totally. Need the look you get with depiction of Greek and Roman gods and let\'s be fair Marines are Gods amoungst men.

The banner and tabard though are absolutely superb. Freehand is top drawer

Straight forwardness is always appreciated -- I have never been offended by opinions on my work. Confused, sometimes, but never offended.

The helmet wings are based on this fellow\'s helmet. The pieces themselves came a High Elf\'s helm. Big and silly, certainly, but that\'s how the GW imagery is supposed to be in this case.

I considered a wreath along the front of the helm, either sculpted or painted on, but thought it would be too cluttered with the freehand I was planning.
