Some here are cheating on votes

Well, I saw some minis from the same person that look incredibly overated to me (all are on ebay too).
So I made an experiment and posted one of them by my own name. (I will off course cancel it in a few days!!)
It\'s rating 8.3 under the original poster name.

Here is the result for mine :

Does anyone know how this is possible ? Does he have so many friends, or does he use several accounts for voting?

Most likly he gets his friends to vote and uses more than one pc.

At the end of the day the only person he is fooling is himself.

The usual way it goes is \"social networking\" which means posting your miniatures on forums for friends to vote. There have been some that have used fake accounts as well (or other ways of cheating using several IPs), but I think social networking is the most common cause for inflated votes.

If there are very few comments, and high votes per view ratio, you can can start suspecting something fishy.

You can always PM me the users name and I can check it out. But as been said, the only one he is fooling is himself. Scores means nothing if you can\'t back it up with top painting.

I almost hate to say this. You can vote as often as you like on any given mini. It does not seem to track/limit votes per IP address.

Don\'t log in and vote on your mini 100 times.

Votes and scores don\'t really mean that much here. I really hate to say that.

I was about to say the same thing. You don\'t need multiple accounts, heck you don\'t even have to have an account at all. You can just keep voting on the same mini.

Some of us actually use that to our advantage for more accurate voting. If I want to vote a mini at 8.5, I vote once at 9, then go back and vote it at 8, overall score from me 8.5.

Now I personally have never miss-used this but I bet there are people out there that have.

Lol If that piece of crap is an 8+ then I\'m GOD lol

The sad thing is, an accurate and reliable voting system would seem like a good idea...
It\'s too bad a handful of idiots are ruining it for everyone :flame:

It is not that difficult to to vote on ones own minis and I think that there are a select amount of painters who cannot resist the temptation if they think it will help them sell some minis. Personally I do not thik that raising the CMON score will increase bids. The painting sells the mini, not the rating on coolmini.

Actually I think the score and rank on CMON helps in making a rep. somewhat, and the rep. helps sell the works.
Of course bogus selfmade scores don\'t really do that but they don\'t help the credibility of such system either.

the more people that sell on ebay and advertise through cmon the more certain scores get inflated and other peoples scores get deflated.
it\'s amazing how many fly up through the ranks due to this.

and it does increase someones income, because some people actualy do believe the scoring system is reflecting the quality.
that\'s why i gave up on the voting/scoring sytsem a long time ago.
(not saying my work deserves high scores, be they 10\'s or 1\'s i wouldn\'t give a shite)

Seriously? I thought after you voted for the same mini, it \'threw out\' your 2nd or subsequent vote.

Phael, I think your point has been made, I guess I probably shouldn\'t allow you to use someone else\'s image as your own.

Please take it down.

Also, maybe you could tell us who the \'original\' owner is....that way we could all vote for it.....:]

Ok, the owner is nikolai adama.

You can vote for him, I just saw he added some new wonderfull pics....lol

I cancelled the pic now, I just wanted to put a finger on it (must say that Phael is not my usual account...)

I surmised that!!

:beer::beer:

I always kind of think the spotlight is the best remedy to shenanigans.

I\'ll go vote on the pics!

a score can obviously never be completely objective, and both over- and underated miniatures happen but this makes me sick! this is just someone trying to make quick money.

the worst thing is: if more people try to pull of this little stunt it will of cause fall back on this site and that would really be a shame.

Dang ....... I feel so stoopid now !!!! :(

I thought that only Cmon members could vote. So actually anyone with access to a PC can vote as many times as they like against a mini ......

As a crazy question, why isnt it members only?

This is one of the reasons I only really care about the \"Registered Average, and Registered Vote\" that is the vote from people who actually bothered to join the site.

I think if you did have to join to vote many people wouldn\'t have spent enough time here to realize they wanted to join. I know if I got on a site and can\'t actually use it without joining I usually leave and never come back.

wow... i take you got a lot of friends who vote your miniatre up for ebay? Shame you can\'t hide a miniature behind a mark.

I don\'t give a damn what score he gets, its not going to make him sell more mini\'s and its not gonna make him a better painter.
Sad that you have to cheat and that you can become so pathetic to look good with such scores...

I\'d say CMON should still get rid of him or make him act normal. This frecks up the whole voting system.

I think the people who inflate their CMON scores thinking it\'ll increase their sales are the same ones who say \"Pro Painted +++\" or \"MASTER PAINTED\" in their auctions; no matter how much you try to tell someone how completely awesome a mini is, at the end of the day there\'s still a photo that\'s worth more than a thousand words (or votes).

It\'s a very sad thing that someone would cheat on scores. Scores should be taken with a pinch (or three) of salt anyway. I\'m sure it won\'t increase his sales, so it just makes him the fool.

Scores almost always end up being pretty realistic. Very rare I find something underrated. There are occasional overrated pics, but it can be put down to any number of factors.

What I don\'t understand is why people bother to submit pics to their gallery if they think the scoring is so FUBAR...
