Some here are cheating on votes

yeah, that whole \"Master Painted\" thing was great for the Pros out there, for about a week before the old \"pro\" sellers took it.

The only thing that that did for me was give me something to write about.

So snarky, and it helped me raise my rep on ebay a bit as well.

Colour me Soooo Surprized.
It\'s only taken people what, nearly 8 Years to realize that people have been cheating on votes?

Excuse the cynicism here but there are people on this site who use (as described) \"Social Networking Skills\" in order to garner votes for their latest posted figure and have done so for several years. In some cases blatantly before the images had even been approved.

I\'ll state my personal view that the voting system is not perfect, it was designed for people who enjoy the hobby of Miniature Painting.
Unfortunatley it doesn\'t take into account the A****le nature of some people who like to:
A: Vote others work Down
B: Attempt to Artificially Bolster their own scores.
C: Pimp their latest mini through every available Internet forum, chat room and email account in their History or Contacts.

The moderators have been looking at this issue and where it becomes apparent we are taking action as appropriate.

I just think that he\'s got a group of folk that like his terrain and dioramas and perhaps those lot over-vote just because they like the feller. Nothing sinister a-doing here.

One of the sure signs of \'help\' being provided by proxy or block voting is something with LOTS of votes, especially lots of votes over a short timeframe. There are things here with ten times the average vote count for the mini and the rough quality of the paintjob.

I almost hate to say this. You can vote as often as you like on any given mini. It does not seem to track/limit votes per IP address.
Sure about that?

Scores almost always end up being pretty realistic.
I think \'almost always\' is stretching it... a lot unfortunately.

Very rare I find something underrated. There are occasional overrated pics...
Occasional? Entire galleries full of \'em mate!

I\'ve just done an experiment to find out. It won\'t affect my standing (old mini - not in the running) Now to wait until the recalc runs and see if any/all of these votes counted. (fun to snipe myself....)

ok...i for one love coolmini and i do pride myself on my 8.9 piece that i worked my a** to get to. but this guy has to be cheating or something else is happening. this truly pisses ME OFF!!!! i work on a piece for 2 weeks for the iron painter that only gets a 7.7 which by the way i am fine with and he has a wizard with reds and oranges and yellows that looked slapped on. some of these do deserve 8\'s. but most do not.

the system is flawed yes, but the mods do their best. i distinctly remember looking at my score one night when it happened to start the new day, and the 4 votes of people that gave me a 1 were taken off. this immediately put me back up to where the mini should have been in the first place. but i digress, in the end this guy knows what to do or a bunch of idiots are coming on here voting up one person just for kicks and giggles. hell i bet after this post, someone will read this and go and snipe my minis with 1\'s. god knows its happened before. thats why i dont put mine on the shout out anymore. keeps the snipers away.

anyhow i guess i am done with my rant.

*exhales* and i am done.

:)

After looking at the quality of the miniatures and the prices that they are being sold for I do not think they will sell. MY minis barely sell for $80.

to be brutally honest, the score means nothing in my view. sure some CRAP minis are at 8.3, so people click on the auctions. they see the pick and they click the back button. if its a rubbish mini the score might not reflect that, but the majority of the time a deserving mini has a good score, they tend not to be underated. besides, its fairly easy to tell if somethings been cheated on, like the one phael showed. all in all, if you got the score but not the mini to back it up, then good luck with that my friend

Regarding the multiple vote thing. I know when I vote more then once on a mini it shows my average, so it probably doesn\'t keep every vote, just the average of your votes, but if you are not logged in you can vote on a mini multiple times and they all appear to count.

I think it is important to point out that the mods have nothing to do with the system itself. That stuff is all behind the scenes. The most we can possibly do is to check into allegations of cheating, and even that is rather limited.

Its toy soldiers..its not real life..

Life is trying not to loose my home..I could care less if people cheat to get 10.0\'s across the board..

Perspective people..perspective..

it\'s toy soldiers as DFD says .. really there isn\'t any poin worrying about it...

At the end of the day a score a mini has doesn\'t affect how I view it..Yeah there is a big trend for this on selling stuff and if people think it will et a better price for them then fair enough .. Amount of sleep I\'ll lose....zero.... It happens the other way around too . Ihave had stuff I\'ve put up with an ebay link and it\'s score goes through the floor in a matter of moments.. again .sleep lost..zero. There is so much more to life...

Personally I think it would be interesting if nothing else for the system to only allow one vote per IP.. (though there would be a few names in the top 50 that would get a shock ) ..I mean there is software that does it .. you can only vote once on a lot of public voting sites .. on this site you can only answer a poll once... but is the effort for the admin really worth it when it\'s all just toy soldiers...

I can understand the frustration for people who are using their scores as a guide to how they are improving sniping, other peoples work overrated etc but the only genuine rating I rely on for my minis is that of my own feeling when I hold it in my hand or the feedback I get from customers who have paid for the work.I love the whole online aspect of this hobby but it does seem to produce so much stress in the hobby than before it was around with people painting to please an audience rather than just for pleasing themselves.

i know its perspective...but for me this hobby has saved my marriage and not to mention my self-esteem, so when i see someone abusing that it just irks me. i will not go into the whole story but rest assurred two years ago i was in a bad space and ppl on here and my wife helped bring me away from that place.

just my other two cents.

Cheating on minis either way..... it happens. There are plenty of ars***les out there and unfortunatly with the nature of the site ie toy soldiers it does tend to attract more than usual. However as many people have pointed out they are only fooling themselves. Take a lot of these overrated minis to a decent competition and they will bomb. We know that... chances are that they know that ; unless they really are deluded.

As for overrating the score to get more money at auction... well a fool and his money are easily parted. If someone hasn\'t got the sense to check the quality of a mini and bases their purchase on the rating from this site alone; then to put it plain they are just suckers.

Thats not to say that I condone such behavior but if there wasnt as many stupid people buying overrated , overpriced figures on Ebay then there would probably be less vote rigging.

The thing is everyone\'s worried that this guys over inflated scores will result in his over inflated prices on eBay.. none of his stuff sold because the guys who are buying stuff aren\'t that stupid to be lead to purchase by a CMON score.. its still about quality..

No matter how much you polish a turd..its still a turd..

the other thing is that buy trying to dupe people into buying something better than it is he isnt doing his repeat business or reputation any good.
as for scores, well im improving, my scores dont, but part of that is down to painting less GW fanboy stuff maybe!

OK, hopefully I\'m not giving out any big secrets here on the scoring algorithim....(Chern/mods feel free to edit if so...)

Yesterday 136 votes at 5.1, 91 registered votes at 5.0 = about right - honestly.

I voted 20 times as myself, and 20 times as unregistered - all at a 7. (I know that if I go too far out, the votes get thrown away - not sure how far is too far..)

Today 146 votes at a 5.2 (I can influence the unregistered vote score) and still 91 votes at 5.0 (no change - I only get one vote....)

if im going to buy something like that on ebay (which i wouldnt) I would look at the quality myself and wouldnt need CMOn score to judge if i feel itas good quality or not.

let them fool themseleves and pay ebays fees for not selling it..
