Some people just can\'t take critisism!

Don\'t like it, don\'t buy it. It\'s simple. Some claim he is \'cheating\' by using a stamping tool...but that makes absolutely no sense.
I think people get upset because he has access to some equipment that makes it much easier to produce sculpts with incredibly fine detail. Equipment that other\'s don\'t have. It\'s tool envy, me thinks. Kinda like a workman blaming someone else\'s tools.

If I ever bought into all this anti-Scibor nonsense, it\'s because he couldn\'t be arsed to remove the mould lines from the conversions he does. It\'s a small thing, but makes such a huge impression. Other than that gripe, good luck to him.

Pressing isn\'t cheating unless you\'re directly pressing off someone else\'s work.

However the parts that are pressed are high quality pieces, so by default there\'s an expectation that the entire piece is going to be of similar high quality. When someone goes to the trouble of creating nice looking press-molded armour but doesn\'t shave off the mold lines from the plastic bits, it comes across as being sloppy work.

Me, I don\'t care either way. Not a huge fan of his work, but I certainly don\'t hate him or his work.

[edit] And Modderrhu beat me to the mold line comment, heh!

Well, I have to say this does seem to border on a \'personal\' attack, which is something I think I should be moderating.

Scibor can be a very controversial topic, but I think comments should be directed towards his \'art\' and less towards his person.
Oi! Where were yooz guys a coupla weeks ago? Huh? Huh? :D

I think one problem people have is that he was accused at one point of making molds from GW parts (mainly heads) and using those in conversions and such which he then sold. I\'ve no idea if that\'s true or if it\'s ever been resolved.
FYI, that\'s not an accusation (i.e. a guess) he admitted as much, right here on CMON.

When I brought to his attention that this was copyright infringement for work that is sold on he said he didn\'t know and would sculpt everything from scratch for future sales, posting examples of scratch heads to show he could do it.

Right on. That, in all fairness, is what gets many people\'s goats I think - beautiful detail accompanied by soft sculpting and evident mould lines... well, that and the fact that they still sell for loadsa dough... lol

I guess its because Scibor mass produces his pieces without any care or attention. He doesnt even take the 10 minutes to scrape off mould likes, flash or even those little stress lugs that are sometimes left when you cut plastic off a sprue and then sells them on for hundreds and hundreds of dollars. One of his mass produced space marines with a few swirly blogs of greenstuff haphazardly glued to it will often sell for more than a fully sculpted mini by a professional sculptor with full production rights.

In addition to \"cheating\" he is also a theif. Look carefully at his heads. All his heads. Notice something? All of them are from a small range of about 5 heads pressmoulded from various existing ranges. Not one of them are sculpted by Scibor himself. He has even admitted it, right here on CMoN but then promptly denied it as soon as the cash was rolling in.

Third, Lampreys! Lampreys everywhere! Whenever he wants to sculpt hair he doesnt actually sculpt hair, he just glues some stringy bits of greenstuff to the top of its head. Every single time.

Loathe as I am to admit it, Scibor can actually sculpt a half way decent mini. If he spent the time he uses on his mass produced pieces of junk on practising sculpting, he wouldnt get half the bile he receives. Look at his latest batch. They range from good to so bad a blind ferret could have done it (the elf with no neck for example). He\'s just too much of a <censored> to take any criticism without throwing the toys out of the pram.

Edit: Just a tad too slow :D

Now tell us how you really feel, Swordwind. ;)

EDIT: Einion, I wasn\'t 100% sure if I remembered correctly, so I didn\'t want to say that he had done it as fact.

Wow - the same could be said of a couple of large multi national mini compainies.

As for the ongoing debate - eh - much like every other mini line out there me likes some, me not like others.

Latest on going Scibor thread at frothers:
http://frothersunite.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=13213&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

Worth reading as they explain why they don\'t like his sculpts.
But if you\'re a soppy sod and easily offended don\'t blame me when you read the sweary words.

as vike has said and i totally agree with him on this....

if you dont like it, dont buy it.

everyone has problems with someone.

i personally like his stuff, i dont care how its done as long as it looks good to me.

and to me it looks good.

sure some are hit and miss but dang man.

i am reminded of what i had to tell a 2nd grader in class today...\"if you dont have anything nice to say, dont say it at all.\"

truer words have never been said.

This discussion is getting sooooo old! Every time Scibor is mentioned the same stuff is dragged up again and again and again. Why not just pop over to Frothers and read their threads instead?:yawn::yawn::yawn:

on Scibors behalf I\'ve posted critism on several of his pieces and he has not removed them so I would doubt it was due to the comment directly. lol I think the poor guy has gotten enough flak thrown at him he should have a pretty thick skin by now

as far as one thing that has upset folk and tarnished his rep was when he openly admittd to making molds of GW heads to use on his ebay conversions.
read details below pics
I\'m not gonna link em all but there are atleast 4 that are still up on here that say the same.

what I think is a shame tho is seein the larger sculpts and busts that are very good and then seeing a mass of churned out minis that look just horrid. I think that is what bothers me the most is knowing theres talent that can make really nice stuff but instead is more focused on making tons of weak minis just to make cash but all in all whatever floats his boat, I spose if I could churn out dorfs that look like their hair piece is flying off and sell em for $90 it would be tempting.

Tho I\'m glad he\'s using the press molds to accent his sculps now instead of pressmoulding 90% of it and his sculpting overall has improved.
lol well I\'ll end that tangent there I seem to be just rambling lol

I have to say, I am a fan of Scibor\'s stuff. If you read some of my comments, I admit I am borderline fanboy. I haven\'t bought any of his stuff. But when I see it I think it is good. Ok I think it is fantastic.

More power to Scibor. Keep going. But now that you have fans, and haters, you really need to tighten your skills. The best way to shut them up is to shut them down. Don’t give them a reason to bash you. It might not change their minds, but it will definitely piss them off. That can be your revenge.

Maybe Scibor took his work off CMON because he felt he was attack. Especially since you seem to have it out for him.

If I was Scibor, I would feel proud. He is getting the same treatment as GW and in less time. lol

What business is to anyone other than the purchaser if he cleans the mold lines or not. If you think it detracts from the miniature then give it a lower vote.

This a guy that GW are aware of (even to the point of having his work in their magazine) and they are obviously not to bothered with what he does or he would be out of business by now.

All I read is a bunch of sour wankers bitching because the guy makes money from what he does.

I\'m a crap photographer. I\'m working on it. But a 2, man? That\'s just harsh. For highlighting... all the rocky outcroppings on the big guys hide, there... those are highlights. The light blue on the gunner on his back.. highlights. The Bleached Bone on the Snakebite Leather of the cap and scarf... highlights.

I can\'t see the mini for the lighting. Looks can be deceiving but it looks like you didn\'t really highlight or shade any of this model either. Maybe a clearer pic would earn you a higher score.

It\'s still posted. My photography is slowly improving, but isn\'t \'there\' yet.
Does dubayouth have a point? Oh, sure, on some areas, the highlighting isn\'t fabulous. And it\'s something I\'ll concentrate on in the future, even more.
The hide on this particular model is very pretty up close and personal, but is very much \'busy\' in the photograph.
I still think the \'2\' was a bit harsh, but he didn\'t do it anonymously, and I can respect that. And that particular model\'s a commission that the customer was very much pleased with. So I got some criticism I can use, AND some cash for the job. It\'s all good.

Correction, making a shedload of money by ripping other sculptors off and deceiving people into thinking he does everything by hand.
