Some stuff I did...

Haven\'t painted much stuff recently. These two have been sat around for months but finally finished them:

I\'ve had this eldar sat in a box of random stuff for 20 years now I reckon. Always meant to paint him one day....

I just got back from Poland (Krakow). Great place. We visited Auschwitz and Birkenau while we were there, something I thoroughly recommend to everyone.

Is it me or does that Eldar have a shark head? lol

Some creative basing going on here, especially like the Darth Vadar one. The highlights are nice and crisp on him, and the lightsaber looks nice too. I think though that the exhausts (vents, whatever they are. You know, those big tuby things on the base. Yep, that\'s the one) might have benefited from having some brown weathering to break up the palette of the piece a bit.

The Eldar guy looks nice aswell, however I think that the blending could have been smoother. Nice use of numbers on the gun, gives some detail to the model.

Two good interesting models. Pimp link? ;)

I like the alternative Darth Vader as well :) nice bases on both models :)

Auschwitz and Birkenau are on my to do list I read the book \"The Nazi\'s Final Salution \" and watched the DVD of the documentary very shocking when compared to what they teach you in history lessons back in the 70\'s and the old World at War series that used to be on TV. I particulary recommend the book, it is all eye witness accounts.

I\'ll have a look for that book.

The size of Birkenau blew me away - I had little real concept of the industrial scale that was used in the camp and the true conditions.

I was surprised to see a (small) group of neo-nazi types at the 3rd May celebrations in Krakow. I guess history is forgotten very quickly...

Yes I agree all through history at school I thought there was only one Auschwitz and Birkenau was never mentioned or was classed as the same place it wasn\'t until I read the book that I realised they were actually two different places.

Some of the guys I have worked with in the past have been there and it has been known to reduce hardened Sailors to tears. I think the hut filled with childrens toys would be enough to reduce me to tears let along the solitary air about the place and no sound of birds.

I think you will be quite shocked when you read the book . I think I git the title wrong though it is Auschwitz : The Nazis & The \'Final Solution\' I remember it as being a BBC book might be worth checking in Waterstones before buyig it else where. It talks about some of the smaller camps as well and one in particular where a train full of Jews would arrive and within 2 hours of that train arriving 90% would be dead - a truly horrific tale indeed.

No problem, I bought the book and the DVD when I posted the link :D as it was leant to me to read last year and as it was a girl that used to work with me she wanted the book back.

great stuff, including the \"area 51\" joke.

Lucas highlighted the tops of the poles though, so maybe touch them a bit still.

Personally I think the saber is too long and I would have started it yellow at the base fading to red rather than the other way around.

I am very impressed by the eldar, really cool mini and colour scheme. The bases on both models are very nice as well.

Went to Amsterdam about 20 years ago and went to the Ann Frank house. I had long been familiar with the her story. Trippiest thing. The minuet I crossed the doorway into the house this sad/creepy/stunned sensation came over me.........strongly. Freaked me out.


BTW - Cool Vader and Eldar!

@ Shaun: I\'ve been there as well. It\'s an incredible story and the place certainly did inspire the feelings you say. It\'s easier in many ways to get a handle on the story of one family - it focuses all the pain and trauma into a more managageable chunk. Birkenau really just left me in a stunned silence, I had that little idea of the scale.

@Decoy: Let\'s hope so, but I\'m not holding my breath....
