Somedays it just doesnt pay to pick up the brush ...

Waaaaaaarrrghghgh!!!!

Yup, that\'s how I feel right now. Ready to declare war on my brushs, paints and what little skill I might have picked up.

The last two weeks I have been very enthusiastic about painting and everything that I have touched has turned to crap.

Ever have one of those moments, days, weeks, years? Think I\'m having mine now.

First, there is the black orc that I\'m painting. Decided to try out some NMM steel on the armor and lets just say what came out was more appropriate for an artsy fartsy elf - looked pretty good actually - but it just didn\'t work - so I decided to do some washes, darken it up, and then go the great idea to do \'rust\' and some other stuff - now I have an orc that looks like he\'s dressed in a pumpkin suit of armor - off to the stripper with him.

Then there is the mini exchange hobgoblin adept ... it started to go wrong fairly quick and my blendings started looking like a five year olds attempt at drybrushing, everything was too jarring and then the wife asked the question \'are you painting spider man?\' ..... off to the dunking barrel with that one.

Then there is the one that I was REALLY proud about, I-Kore Celtos Rhianna Shieldmaiden. More work that it looked like but it seems to be coming out alright - until I decided to do a light wash to pick up some details and then I found myself repainting areas, then things started getting a bit think and the smoothness of the paint decided it was going to go the way of the damn stupid dohdo bird. THEN I tried to paint her eyes .... lets just say she looks like someone just stuffed a stick up her arse and it is a look of complete surprise on her face. Still working on that one as I think its salvagable, but what went from ... \'yeaaah, this is lookin\' goooood\' took a turn and went \'aaaah crap!\'.

Then ... I decided to take a break from my Rhianna chick and I broke out my SQUID HOUND that I\'m so happy to have gotten ahold of. Well this is the first time I\'ve painted on black primer - with red none-the-less so it was an experience but it looks pretty good overall. Then I start to do the eyes .... (banging head against table).

I\'m about to take a dremel to them for the sheer pleasure of seeing pewter and lead flying everywhere as I howl with glee.

(breathing rather heavily)

Now ... I\'m going to listen to some music, calm down, and go start on them again.

Everyone, and I mean everyone I know has one of those days! Thankfully they get less as the experience grows but hey we all still get them.
Besides putting mini\'s in the stripper is a good sign that you have a criteria that you want to work towards. Never worry about how well you are doing because there will come a day when everything just \"Clicks into place\" with a Captial C.
Then you\'ll look back at this thread and say \"Wasn\'t I a right Pillock!\" lollollol

Yeah, I kind of came to that conclusion last night while I was thinking about the various miniatures I\'ve been working on and I think that is where I need to put my work at first (the eyes).

Of course, you made me go look up Pillock as I had no clue what that was.

MUst be a plague I\'m having the exact same thing, first I had this bane leader pretty nicely done until I started using green ink to shade the red, didn\'t work at all, so to the stripper it whent. I wasn\'t to mad about this since it was an experience, so not suposed to work out at first try.
Then I started painting Malus drakblade, got to doing the boring part of the mini, the cold one. And once I was done the cold one I found that I just didn\'t have the motivation to do the rest. So it\'s still stiting on my desk no closer to beeing done.
So I though I would go and by myself a nice mini that I really like to get back on the right track. So whent out and bought athos (griffon commander or somthing like that). All whent well till I started trying to do white armour over my b;ack base coat, didn\'t work, and of to the striper.
Then I got my mini exchange mini. Looked nice and I was really motivated to make it look good. So i started on it but for some reason my brush decided that it would look nice with tiny chunks of dried paint all over it incrusted in the paint. So off to the stripper with it. And the worst part is that I left him in there to long on is plastic base so the base I had done was ruined ( not much of a base but I still have to redo it )

And since I\'m not in the right periode to paint, I haven\'t painted anything in about a month and a half. No I could paint more if I was really motivatedd but I also have a minor paint block and mr goodkind\'s sword of truth novels wich are too much for my patience to handle (read the seconde volume in 2 days and can\'t wait to go by the 3rd ).

Well anyway normally this should pass after some time and make me a better painter with all those mistakes I\'v learned ( or maybe I should take up yoga )

I know your pain! I went through many many stages of frustration with Trogdor, but since I\'ve been painting wolfen for myself, things have been coming along really well. The trouble is I like to see a bit finished before moving on to the next. I find it very difficult to just basecoat each area and build up all the areas in stages, not seeing how everything is going to look until late on in the process.

Don\'t worry, It\'ll come together soon enough!

The only thing that really blocks me is the time it takes me to set up my paint spot. I usually paint in my living room because that\'s where I\'ve got the best lighting. But the down part of that is I can\'t have a permanent paint spot because of guests (they don\'t always understand my hobby ).

@frenchkid : get your hands on a Devorer, you do fine on those .

I had one of those days. It started about a year and a half ago when I found CMON. Until then I thought that my painting was reasonable. Now, after seeing the good stuff, I realise that it\'s crap. I\'m sure it will work itself out, or I\'ll give up and buy an army.

I have been having one of those days today! Not just the painting going awry today but everthing else too! Grrr I think I should have not bothered to get up this morning.

When I feel that everything I paint turns out crap, I take a month or two off the hobby.. it takes off the pressure of finishing a mini and helps to catch the inspiration because I still browse through cmon to see what other people are doing This might not work on all people, I paint only a few minis a year, so not painting for months doesn\'t bother me as much as someone finishing an army. I hope u can salvage that shieldmaiden, those minis are hot
