No, it\'s not very dangerous. It has some known (although not very common) side effects, yes, but those are mostly quite mild and not very harmful. In some extreme cases, when someone has severe kidney diseases or other quite critical conditions, ibuprofen can cause more serious side effects.

This is true IF you follow recommended doses - then it´s not especially dangerous. Otherwise it would only be obtainable with a prescription.

However my comment was aimed at teenagers who doesn´t nescessarily understand exactly what happens when they exceed recommended doses.

I have a wife who is a doctor in the traumacentre of a major hospital, and she sees weekly cases of young people either deliberately suiciding on pain-killers (some trying - some succeding), or people whose kidneys shut down after exceeding recommended doses by accident. I also have a co-worker whose sister died after ingesting double the recommended dose (I am aware that this is a special case).

I´m not saying that this is a dangerous dangerous drug that should be illegal or even only available on prescription. What I´m saying is that it DOES kill if it isn´t treated with respect, and I understand why schools have a policy against free use of it while on school property.

Exceeding doses is generally not very dangerous either... I have done it often out of frustration that the regular dose didn\'t help (although I know that increasing the dose doesn\'t increase the effect). I\'ve been told by doctors that exceeding the dose is merely a waste of pills, but not dangerous (unless you take huge amounts). Medications that are harmful unless dosed carefully are generally prescription drugs. There is no warning in the documentation that comes with the drug that says exceeding the dose is dangerous, only that it has no increased effect. Note, that when I say \"dangerous\" here I mean \"very harmful\" and \"potentially leathal\" as suggested above.

That being said, you should not, of course, exceed the dosage! Even if it won\'t kill you it is unnecessary to subject your body to more of the drug than needed.

when i was a junior school i got kicked where it hurts and some \"mid day\" supervisor asked if they could see if everything was ok. My answer: f**K off

Alex

and if anything like that happened to my sister i would have no problems with calling up my friends and beating the shit out of anyone involved.

To quote from that article:
\"Ibuprofen may cause ulceration of the stomach or intestine, and the ulcers may bleed. Sometimes, ulceration can occur without abdominal pain, and black, tarry stools, weakness, and dizziness upon standing (orthostatic hypotension) due to bleeding may be the only signs of an ulcer.\"
Which is exactly what happened to me. I ended up being rushed into Hospital and with several pints of blood stuck back in.
It\'s also left me with a liability towards other painkillers and Cold remedies (Beechems Hot Lemon/Blackcurrent) which caused a repeat of the bleeding. Hence I\'m very cautious about the amount of paracetamol I take.

Paracetamol thins the blood hence when taken as a headache/hangover cure of 1 x Paracetamol and 1 x Ibobrufen you can be as right as rain again fairly quickly. However I wouldn\'t recommend it as it can be extremely painful when the effect wears off and you discover that you have smashed all the ligaments in your knee playing rugby that morning :(

Ibobrufen should only be taken on doctors recommendation/prescription and should always be taken with food.

I will only take painkillers these days under extreme circumstances and even then I will only take them grudgingly and will stop as soon as possible.

Ah but see that is inappropriate use of torture to get information out of someone.

My condoning torture is as punishment for their crimes. Not to get confessions or other information. We all know information received during torture is not accurate . . . usually.

There were other reasons as well...

Me too, almost exactly DR!

I\'ve had some foot problems, and just started popping ibuprofens like the Doctors told me.....

After a few years, I almost passed out one morning, rushed to the hospital, and found out I had a bleeding esophagal ulcer...

So, just like anything, ibuprofen can have its ill effects....

Im with spacemunkie, I pity tha fools....who have no kiwi passport :D

Whatever happened to if you had to do anything with a person under the age of consent, you needed parents permission, let alone a strip search, which is normally only done under police supervision.

Would a school even have the right to perform a strip search, permission or not?

What in the hell were they thinking?! I mean, jesus, would you imediately think \"Hey! I got a solution to all this! Lets take the 13 year old kid into a back room and strip her!\"

These people are working in an education facility which would lead me to the estimation that between at least two of them they might have a modicum of common sense.

I\'m not even going to start on the \"If that was my daughter\" scenario. It\'s enough to work me up into a rage when I don\'t even know the poor girl.

The tag line at the bottom of the page made the boldest statement. God forbid anyone get relief from a low grade painkiller... F**king idiots.

I remember another case where the girl was suspended for giving another a \"Midol\".........must be an all male teaching staff, who have never had menstrual cramps.

when i read this, it really set me off. wtf type of person would even do such a thing? what even pissed me off even more was that no action or punishment was taken.

but after a while, i began to sympathize with the people involved. dont get me wrong, im not approving of their actions but simply looking for why this may have happene. but think of it in the eyes of a principal. everyday, you deal with crap and stupid cocky punks most of the time. its a stressful job. sometimes, its hard to distinguish whether a kid is guilty as accused or just honest to god innocent being caught at the wrong place/wrong time.

without looking at things in someone elses shoes, its really easy to jump the gun and put someone to the cross.

but what really ticked me off was when the principal stated that he thought that it was no big deal as no drugs were found. no big deal? someone was just sexually violated and had their rights as a human taken away from them. from this, you can make a sure assumption that the principal is a fo sure inconsiderate dick.

*reads even further* man, bunch of crap. makes me embarassed of our north american justice system (i live in canada. our justice system dosnt do well @ times as well)

edit: hmmm....hope that made some sense

id say standard legal proceeding would be sufficient to ruin as many lives as need be, costing them their savings, livelihood, and reputation. inhumane treatment of people who mistakenly believed they were doing the right thing is not a solution. the reason torture and \"cruel and unusual punishment\" is forbidden is because it leads to a downward spiral of human morality and cheapens the value of a human life for everyone. the solution to depravity in our society is not reciprocation - such behavior is self propagative and would eventually lead to further social decay as media exposure and social norms made such retaliation commonplace.

from what i can infer there was no evil intent, only repulsively (and potentially incriminating) poor judgement. infuriating, certainly, but to seriously advocate torture for such a crime is morally reprehensible.

i am disgusted by some of your inflammatory comments (which are counter productive).

fortunately none of you are in the position to make objective decisions professionally.

yeah i thought she couldn\'t give consent, not legally being an adult at all. like a 16 y/o boy having sex with his g/f the day before her 16th birthday, he can be done for rape, because she isn\'t old enough to consent

as for the ibuprofen thing. drugs can be dangerous, i\'ve seen a 24 y/o woman die from having 2 too many paracetamol in 24 hours. scary shit! i can understand not letting kids have stuff like that at school but the whole searching thing is ridiculous!

as for drugs side effects, legally, the companies have to list ALL side effects from their drugs reported in trials. these are often random and nothing to do with the drug (and often symptoms which you would take the drug for!). most drugs are gastric irritants so suggest taking with or after food. just be careful
