Whilst sailing the deep blue, stop in Margarita Ville for a cheeseburger in paradise before the volcano blows!

Best wishes.

First, thank you to everyone for the support.

steelcult: Sure if you\'d like to send letters back and forth just send me an email with your snail addy to Schmidt.Nicholas@Gmail.com

@MT: i actaully got them to write in my contract my \"guaranteed\" job before swear in. So there\'s a place for me in the A school already. Now i know guaranteed jobs aren\'t really 200% guaranteed, but the military hates to spend 10,000 dollars on an extensive background check to give somebody a top secret clearance, then turn them into a janitor. So once i clear my background check... i\'m told i\'m pretty much in.

As to my job. i\'ll be a Cryptologic Technician. Basically i\'ll be a spook spying on the bad guy either in the feild, or hiding on a ship or shoreside.
As Dave said, I understand the Navy is somewhat better at keeping promises then the Army. And besides, you get to hangout with those cool Navy Seals! However, do you see the part of your quote above I highlighted in red? We spend just as much time spying on our ALLIES as we do anyone else, don\'t kid yourself. In fact, the last US Navy spy ship sunk was done so by ISRAEL! Of course, everyone claimed it was a \'misunderstanding\' afterwards.

Yeah... riiiiiiiiight.

Anyhow, good luck with all of your endeavors... it\'s not just a job... it\'s an opportunity to get laid in every country on Earth! lol

You\'ll be in a locked room on the ship, decoding transmissions. It will be your job if the ship starts sinking to destroy all secret material.
On the bright side CT\'s get very good time off of the ship in ports.

Almost forgot. You\'re going to have to give up mini\'s unless you\'re on shore duty. Painting on a ship is nigh impossible, unless you\'re on a carrier.

One of my buddies was a SEAL, we were hanging out in Tiajuana one night, when apparently some guy got pissed off at him and pulled a switch blade. My friend broke his arm in like 6 places, finished off his beer and said \"Come on guys, we gotta get to the border.\" while the would be knifeman is screaming on the floor.
SEALs are good to be with if you\'re going into dodgy territory.lol

Some Basic Training survival tips:

Your instructor can do just about everything but hit you-they can get in your face and scream until they\'re eyes pop out of their skulls but they CANNOT lay a finger on you. And yelling is just yelling-they want to see if you break down and start crying-you will be amazed at the number of people that do.

Before you go-practice standing at attention and relaxing-your eyes facing straight ahead. You\'re going for a middle distance soft focus thing with your eyes. Never NEVER look your instructor in the eyes when you are at attention. Look at their forehead or chest-or better yet stare through them. Have someone scream abuse at you until you can do this without flinching or rolling your eyes etc-nothing like a good eye roll to stir their blood lust! They can\'t hit you but you can end up doing some pretty awful jobs. It\'s all about your body language and not letting yourself get rattled.

You all look alike with no hair and the same clothes-use this to your advantage! I had the great good fortune to look very like someone else in my unit. The instructor could never remember which of us was which and couldn\'t always see our name tapes so he pretty much left us alone because he didn\'t want us to know he didn\'t know lol Which was very nice and I still graduated with some awards :D

The tip about letters is right on-just let your writers know that you might not be able to send them more than brief notes back. You will be very very busy!

Good luck to you :)

His first job was pretty bad. He had to spend every day underground listening to Chinese radio broadcasts for hours on end.

yeah army spy is rarely a james bond type of job. I have a friend who got taken in as a spy for the army, he as two years of training before going on the field But from what I gathered his job is basically to be droped off somwhere without backup and listening to everything he can :p Not quit the monaco casino we could imagine.
Wonder if inteligence agency have it easier :p

Just remembered this :
A vacation in a foreign land
Uncle Sam does the best he can
You\'re in the army now
Oh, oh, you\'re in the army now

Now you remember what the draftsman said
Nothing to do all day but stay in bed
You\'re in the army now
Oh, oh, you\'re in the army now

You be the hero of the neighborhood
Nobody knows that you left for good
You\'re in the army now
Oh, oh, you\'re in the army now

Smiling faces as you wait to land
But once you get there no one gives a damn
You\'re in the army now
Oh, oh, you\'re in the army now

Hand grenades flying over your head
Missiles flying over your head
If you want to survive get out of bed
You\'re in the army now
Oh, oh, you\'re in the army now

Shots ring out in the dad of night
The sergeant calls (stand up and fight)
You\'re in the army now
Oh, oh, you\'re in the army now

You\'ve got your orders better shoot on sight
Your finger\'s on the trigger
But it don\'t seem right
You\'re in the army now
Oh, oh, you\'re in the army now
You\'re in the army now
Oh, oh, you\'re in the army now

Night is falling and you just can\'t see
Is this illusion or reality
You\'re in the army now
Oh, oh, you\'re in the army now
You\'re in the army now
Oh, oh, you\'re in the army now
