SOS, Varnishing mini\'s

Have any of you master painters got any practical advice on varnishing techniques including brand names.
I use humbrol gloss then matt brush on, at the moment but would like a faster yet still hard wearing method of doing this, without ending up with snowy looking figures. They are for gaming mini\'s so need to be hard wearing and matt!
I use GW and Foundry acrylics paints, any help would be gratfully recieved.

Use a hard, durable varnish first, don\'t bother about the finish here. I use Humbrol satin coat (brush on). Then use Testors Dullcoat and spray on a couple of thin coats. This effectively takes all the shine away. Remember however, that the first varnish must be completely dry before putting on the Dullcoat.
