Space Marine Captain in Terminator armor

Hi all,

this is my first post ever on CMON :)
And one of my first \"serious\" work of figure painting, if I do not count dozens of figs painted roughly from 1980 to 1985 when I was student and playing D&D and others RPG...

I already posted my previous work on the gallery :

Here you see the result of my first hours of work on this GW space marine, nothing is finished yet, although I think that the face is not too bad already (still need some small touch-ups of colors to blend overall color).

The armor color work is only partly done : I need to add more shades an dark areas, and will also apply some subtles (I hope) color layers to vary effects.

Today I worked on the skulls belt, I am not totally pleased with the result, and will try to correct it with some added work (maybe I should have tried NMP, but did not dare).
I also worked on the \'camera\' lenses above the head and think the result is not too bad, however I will still work on the outside circles and shadows.

Face and lenses look good - though the photos seem a little washed out - was the flash on?

No flash, but the figure was very close to the neon tube and I maybe enhanced too much the contrast under PaintShop :)

This is looking good. I would give the blue areas some glazes (blue ink very thin, or well thinned paint - same as the base colour) to bring back some life into those blues.

Hello, thanks for your reply...
Yes, I will do that, I was speaking of that when saying \"adding subtles shades to the armor color\". I am waiting to finish the overall paint of the figure before working on that.

Here is a new pic with new work in progress. I am not quite satisfied with the result of metal paints on this... I will try to add some lights effects with non metallic paints, and I guess that for next figure I will try Non Metallic Metal techniques.

I also started work on purity seals.

This looks very good so far, I see you are going for the classic look, ultramarine I presume. Very nice lean colors, the face I think could use some more depth, it will make him look less youthful. The metallics could use some more highlights I think, they will look much better. Will bew waiting for the rest, I´m quite curious - what are you planning for the base - simple stuff or something more elaborate?

Hello,
thanks for your reply :)
Yes, I still need to work a bit on the face with some glazes, and on the armor as well as it will enhance the overall look (even if armor has more lighting effects than could be seen on last pic, which look too flat).
The color is based on ultramarine blue as I like this color, I am not very skilled about W40k heraldry and color schemes (this figure is my second serious figure work, first one being Legolas already published on CMON).

You are 100% right about the metallics, as said I am not very pleased with the look and will try some highlights. Also next time I think I will try NMM instead of TMP.

About the base : good question, and I am not sure yet... I never did an elaborate base before but I think I will try to create some not-too-complex stuff that will be better than a simple base. Maybe some small part of an industrial complex - door or hatch, wall, something like this.

Hello,

some new pics of the WIP...

I did not work on the already mentioned areas (face, metallic areas, ...) but rather on some new things : right arm, gloves, and several small details.

Also, I started work yesterday on a small display with plasticard. I still need to add more features to the wall on the left part of the pic, but I am close to start the painting work on this.

There are several automatic weapon impact holes above the door, one even made a hole into the tube (it will propably leak some foul liquid...).
I also tried to get a worn out look for all the tubes, by flooding them with liquid plastic cement and touching them with fingers and steel tools...

WOW I love that base - but I severely doubt anyone in termi armour would ever fit through that door without using a chainfist :p

Totally true :) but perhaps it was never intended to let a space marine enter in this area... Hence he seems to be cornered...

Could be this captain last stand, who knows what is standing in front of him ?

Mmmm, not sure the bad guy is the one in your post... I hope anyway, this one is really too awful.

Here is the current state of work. Still FAR from finished, until now it is 90% airbrush work, including yellow/black warning line (metal pipes with brush).

I will now work on a lot of glazes, shades, inks and other hightlighting to enhance details and give an overall weathered/dirty look to the whole base.

Oh, and it seems that some evil \"thing\" has already left some claw marks on the door :D

Looking good - but that drip looks a bit too fat - otherwise verrrrry nice :)
I agree about the drip. And when seen from some angle, it does not seems 100% straight (not vertical).
I will probably redo it to correct size and overall look.

Drip of liquid redone with epoxy glue, dipped inside clear green paint (Tamiya Clear Green), then dipped inside Tamiya Clear. Result is much better, even if quite difficult to see with pic :
