Space Marine Chaplain WIP..looking for help/guidance

The crozius looks good, but it's hard to visually interpret whatever is on top of the jetpack. Flames? They don't look "integrated" with the rest of the model.

I don't know if the medal-award things are necessary for the game (I personally think they're overused), but the stance of the model would play well with some kind of cloth. Either longer scroll things, banners, a tabard, or maybe a banner sort of thing attached to the crozus?

I don't know much about Space Marines but I do know the ribbon things are Purity Seals. Right now they look as if they have been placed to cover the seams. I do like the way you have him set up so far though.

The skulls on top of the jump pack are a bit too large for my tastes. And yes a large banner or cloth draped over the front of his body would look ace

consider painting the skulls on, they dont seem at all practical, and kind do just look stuck on, the first pick i saw i wondered "whys there blue-tac on his jump pack?"

Those seams on the JP are a real distraction. I would recommend filing those asap. The best plastic fiiler I have used that I really like is actually 3M Red Spot Putty, you can pick it up at most any auto-parts store, it comes in a red and black tube, it is basically bondo that does not need to be mixed. Get those seems filled and I think that will be a big step toward a nice improvement.

Chaplains need chains. The best source for chain is scale model boat rigging, most well stocked hobby stores should have it, if not then you can find it online google-ing scale model anchor chain. Then you can wrap chain all over the place and that will help a lot.

As others have mentioned, those skull on top of the pack just don't look right. Check the bits supplier websites for chaos stuff, I am sure you will find a nice skull part that you can use that will "fit in" with the rest of the mod.

Lastly the helmet and lack of cape/cloak/tabbard is somewhat bothersome. Take a look at the chaplain conversion I did for my IF army;

Adding those draped elements really ads to the bad-ass-ness of a model.

Other than those things I think you are off to a great start!!

Thanks for the tips everyone! Putting this one on the back burner for now to finish up on my Rackham dwarves and then on to the Assault on Black Reach box set.
