Space Marine question

I don\'t have my Space Marines codex with me, but what would make it legal to have a Sergeant with a storm bolter and chainsword? If I remember right, I can give him a storm bolter if he\'s got Terminator Honors? But I could be mistaken. Just wanna know before I start putting a Storm Bolter on him. :)

Thanks ahead of time.

Yup, Terminator Honours for 15 points. Storm bolter for another 5. I\'m geeky enough when it comes to Space Marines that I don\'t even need the codex to confirm that (hangs head in shame!)

I wouldn\'t spend 20 extra points to go for that setup myself though. Not when I could get a whole extra Space Marine for just 15, but that\'s up to you. I guess you like the mini\'s looks more than in game effectiveness, which I can only applaud to be honest.

Well sergeants can\'t actually take Plasma Guns. Combi-plasmas are available, but you are paying 10 points (+ the 15 for Terminator Honours) for a bolter with the ability to fire one plasma shot during the game. That isn\'t really too great.

I\'m guessing you are making a shooty squad here rather than something that will get in close combat, so you really won\'t get to make much use of the +1A benefit of the 15 point Term Hons. From a purely gaming point of view, I\'d be tempted to leave my sergeants as they are, with just a bolter, so that all those useful points can be spent elsewhere. You can still make a bolter wielding sergeant look different by having him posed differently, using a more elaborate looking bolter, adding a weapon strap, all that sort of thing.

Or give him the terminators honours pad, without actually using it, or taking the points, just to have something else in gold or whatever colour to mark him out.

Also, the classic Space Marine (veteran) Sarges are mostly still available via mail order, I ordered myself a couple for variety (some with different looking weapons, bionic parts and stuff).
