Spam sarnies

I\'m a conscientious objector to the closing of the spam thread. There was no need for it to be closed as there was nothing terrible or offensive about it. A little bickering is good for the soul! So, in response to the closure, I have instigated this wonderful thread to continue our debates of recent times.

Anti-GW bias is not to be considered bad for the CMON forum. It could be suggested that it is even one of the most popular subjects. What\'s great about the bias is the fact that we have anti-anti-GW responses to the threads that are started and then a chance to open up some decent debate with a bit of banter thrown in. The only bad part about the recent SPAM thread is the targeting of new blood like Marmoset (solidarity brother!) for special treatment. Let the kid be! He\'s more intelligent and communicative than a lot of folk round here and has genuine humour. This place does need to lighten up again. All the guff in that thread from Avicenna stating that anti-GW stuff is bad for the forums is piffle. Closure of threads that carry varying opinions and a chance to debate those opinions is what buggers up forums.

Once again, let\'s make sure we don\'t fall into trap of becoming over-moderated. Just because the temperature rises a little it doesn\'t mean things are bad. More interesting would be closer to the mark. Sure, there have been some silly ideas about campaigns against the GW forums, but it\'s all bluster and bravado and a bit of a laugh, so let\'s not get too stressed.

And finally a nod to Dragonsreach, finn, Vike and anyone else who falls under the moderation umbrella: You guys do a grand job 99% of the time. Thumbs up!

Which was exactly what you did in raising that thread in the first place. You took the arrows and didn\'t like it. Same old stuff really lol

Responsibility for what, exactly? No one even did anything let alone yours truly. I just said it would be a great spectacle, I don\'t think you should harangue me for that. Stop living in animal farm, we are allowed a little free speech in this place :D and I might remind you that you commited the heinous act of h y p o c r i s y in your spammy thread :p Rev is just being realistic.

You da man rev

Happy painting

The dark powers that seek to subvert us from the paths of free speech and adult conversation, Bill! Vike has long been a supporter of the free :D

I just had a chance to read through the Span Attack? thread. :wow: There was some good mud slinging going on. I am not really sure if I would of closed it myself though.

Pete, shrug it off, come join me for an Ale.

Every couple of months, someone has to bitch about GW (prices, policies, stores, etc.)

Not me. Don\'t play the game. Seen it a couple of times. I must say that it has changed over the years. Back in 90 (or so) when I first saw it. We played a 4 hour battletech game with 90% casualties and the winner decided. The warhammer table started the same time as us and had two armies that had yet to move across the table. Decided that was not the game for me.

Well, Battletech is now gone and sort of reincarnated (CBT). But has lost it\'s shine for me.

Have friends that played Star Fleet Battles. 10 hours to kill one ship (on a good day). I don\'t think it is still in print either.

Reaper is coming out (*soon*) with CAV2 that looks to be a faster version of Battletech.

I still play the game that started it all - D&D - albet in its latest incarnation.

For a good smaller scale wargame, you might give WarLord (from Reaper) a try.

GW is still in production, the game is still played - now in 3 (not sure) versions - WHF, WH40k & Mordheim. So, knock them all you want, but they have figured out how to stay - which is more than a lot of my old favorite games have done.

And yet, Battletech was a much better designed and more fun game to play than 40k ever has been, in my humble opinion (and 40k has really become worse and worse for every successive version, despite the simplifications meant to make it faster). There\'s much more to whether something stays or goes than how good the rules system is .

How is this thread suddenly turning into a discussion about the merits of different game systems? ??? Some of us don\'t even game... life is so much easier :]

Battletech was pretty fun, until you started getting people designing their own mechs.
Clan warriors, targetting systems, and clan weaponry to max out their \'to hit\' probability.

However, even maxed out mechs/pilots wouldn\'t stand up to solid tactics. That made me smile.

A 30 ton mech that can run really fast can blast the back armour off of anything. :D

I quote Bill, you da man Rev^^

Let\'s not get sressed indeed.
I don\'t like you speaking of it like that, a bit of implication could make it so much more, I wish someone else than Hash could see that.

And I hope we could all just get along too, but thats another story.
