Only to realise the thread has been locked.

All right, just to prove I\'m a twit, what the heck is a sarny??? I even looked it up. According to \"answers.com\" its a town in the Ukrain ??? ??? ???

As to the important question of the day: I prefer my corned beef on dark rye or pumpernikel with a bit of Swiss. That or go the whole way to a Rueben - mmmmmm, sauerkraut:)

I think the singular is also Sarnie, maybe that was the cause of your confusion? lol It is British slang for \"sandwich\". We brits really are strange.... :rolleyes:

Ahhh evaporated milk! Another recent re-discovery! The missus got some to make some chai tea, but poured over Jamaica Ginger bread! Crackerjack! with Don Maclean and that little fat bloke!

Hmm - really been craving a nice grilled ham and cheese -

Nice thin ham and provolone cheese on wheat bread - grilled till the cheese holds the whole thing together.

Add a couple of nice garlic dill pickles and a nice crisp/chip and you\'ve got a meal

But there is something wrong with closing threads.

I understand where Rev is coming from, because I wanted to reply to the \'Sulu\' thread and found it closed awhile back. Unless someone is being attacked both visciously and repeatedly then I don\'t really see a point. An off-hand coment like bell-end is actually kind of funny on occasion, but if Rev were to call a person something truly vile over and over again then I could understand a little closure.

Anyhow, that\'s not the real reason I responded to this thread... You\'all made me hungry! Now I got to go to the market and get some corned beef and rye and make my self a nice Reuban. Mmmmmm.... Bavarian saurkraut...

I also feel calling a sandwich a sarnie is just plain wrong! There are many great inventioins that come out of Grmany and we should pay tribute to their genius by calling them by their correct names. The Sandwich, the Frankfuter, the Hamburger, mustard gas (I get that everytime I eat a lot of horseradish mustard).

Anyhow, we should respect food and it\'s proper names for all the hours of joy it has brought us. Now, a very large sandwich is a uniquely American invention, and should be called by the name given it by it\'s New York inventors, The Hero! None of this stupid Hoagie or Submarine crap. No sireenie bob. It doesn\'t go underwater, and I\'m not wrapping my lips around anything called a \'Hoagie\'. ;)

Just to set the record straight... ummmm... what were we talking about again... ???

Ehm... the sandwich was given its name due to the Earl of Sandwich, I think? It has to be an English thing, since no-one else would quite ruin the potential of two perfectly good slices of bread by putting cucumber in-between them. :rolleyes: A good zarm is a wonderful thing. :)

I had always assumed Sandwich was in Germany because I thought \'Earl\' was a Germanic title (stemming from the Norse Jarl). If I had thought about the name of the town I should have realized; after all, don\'t 90% of English towns end in \'wich\'?

Anyhow, I just thought of another great German invention... Bondage and Domination. Or is that two?!

What made me laugh as a kid was being near Sandwich (visiting my Uncle possibly) and seeing the road sign that showed \'Ham\' on one arm and \'Sandwich\' on the other lol I kid you not, that sign is very real! Ham was one way, Sandwich the other, but they read as Ham Sandwich lol

Aye, and bell-end is hardly a bloody insult :eek:
