Spanish GD 2009

I´m just starting this thread to see if there is any interest from Brits coming over to Spain for the GD.
From what i´v read it should be around mid Feb and either in Barcelona or Madrid.

I´l probably be in some campsite in France around that time, but if there is a few Brits flying over for it I can easily get a train down into Spain and repitch for a few days.

Anybody planning on going over?

if this many Brits go over....we\'re likely to double the number of entries!

There\'s a new thread over on the Spanish forums
Seems like it may be on 15th March at Leganes (Near Madrid)

Doesn\'t seem to be 100% confirmed yet though

I\'d be well up for it, and I can get a pretty good deal on flights/hotel if anyone wants in on the action (my gf is a travel consultant specializing in city breaks)

I can\'t speak a word of spanish (can I still say \'space marine\' or for instance \'yes it was me that won the slayer sword\' in english and still hope to be understood ;) ) so I\'d rather go with others than on my tod. Would be satisfying to pwn the spanish gd comp!

Any info I can get on categories, how it tends to work there, all the stuff that you don\'t officially find out e.g. base size etc.?

My only advice would be:

1: Don\'t enter a vehicle (unless they have indeed changed the categories for next year so they don\'t have heavy tanks being judged against single miniatures).

2: Take a printed copy of the categories and rules with you so you can ensure the competition organisers stick to them.

3: Don\'t enter a Forgeworld model.

4: When you get home and are talking about quitting the hobby... listen to your friends, stay positive and re-enter your minis from Spain in GD UK.

Here the link to the 2008 bases: http://es.games-workshop.com/comunidad/games_day/golden_categorias.asp

Wait to see the final date and bases for 2009.

As Ben says, in large base of warhammer 40k you can see monsters, vehicles and singles that needs 40mm bases, like terminators, stupid rule in my opinion). The same for warhammer fantasy, it´s not possible to use 40mm square bases.

You can enter a FW model, there is also this trophy in Spain and some years winners have been of FW.

Hey Nano...

The FW thing was just in reference to the problem this year where the official rules printed on the GW Spain website said FW models could be entered in the \'Large base\' category (vehicle/monster) but when we got to the competition, the judges said that FW models could ONLY go in \'Open\'. I only managed to get my tank in \'Large base\' because I argued the point and showed them the print out of their own rules... and I don\'t think having to argue the point helped matters.

Don\'t want to put a downer on it, just personally felt there were some serious problems with the categories and how the comp was run and PERSONALLY I came away this year upset about it to the point I considered leaving the hobby (on a compettitive level anyway)... didn\'t want any other painters to go through the same thing.

Anyway... I think we\'re all off to GD Germany next year, gonna sample all the european gamesdays sooner or later I hope!

thanks for the link Nano, I read the site (translated anyway) and found it very helpful - a bit different you\'ll agree!

Ben - Doesn\'t sound so good! It doesn\'t help that I speak approximately 0 words in spanish either...Deutsch on the other hand ;)

True... the timing of Spain is pretty ideal being about 6 months or so from the UK demons... will have to see when the others are.... maybe France, cheap to get to at least, though it almost clashed with Salute this year.

Irrelevant of my personal feelings about specific GD\'s, I will say that attending a comp in another country is a great experience, especially if you go with a group of mates, it can be massive fun.

Hi Ben, I didn´t know that it happened the last GD, I remember some vehicles in large base of 40k another years. Badly done by GW...there were some other problems this year, and all is because they don´t have a clear rules.

And finally you don´t leave the hobby ;)... and this last UK GD was so good for you, I hope it helps you to keep with this hobby!

Well, although I don\'t relish the thought of going on my lonesome (if anyone else is going and also wants some company then let me know), I\'ll have a pop at the spanish gd this year I think, it\'ll be fun. Now, I gotta get on and plan my assault. I\'d love to enter the special edition mini category, was it the space marine with the hammer like the UKGD?
