Spear of Darkness - Dark Eldar goodies

Oookkkk this one requires a little backstory.

A mate and colleague (is that spelled right?) of mine whom i met about 3 years go and reintroduced to the glorious world of gaming, painting and rpg-ing came to me with an offer i just couldn't refuse.

"Im becoming a dad in a few months, so i dont have time or money to finish this dark eldar army. If you help me and the missus move its all yours"

Well duuh, yes ofc!

So here i am, the owner of a large mound of semi assembled, semi painted dark eldar.

My all time favorite miniature "line", just gorgeous from end to end.

And it just so happens my regular gaming group is starting to get i to wargaming again after along break.

I am still sorting out the army details, i wont bore you with them, and shuffling/swapping weapons around. But i have some of them primed a few test minis done to show you in a day or so.

I have had a scheme in mind for a very long time......i hope you like it. :nobrushlick:

As promised the test mini for the Dark eldar. The banner was done by the previous owner, not sure what to do with it yet.

This was done quickly to get something to show and to figure out if the scheme i had in mind worked or not. The rest will be done better

On the plus side, my new lamp seems to be working, lot better light than usual

Ah... pictures, all is well with the world.
Looks nice man, I like the dark blue/purple colour combo.
The green on the weapons looks nice and gives a good contrast, but the combo with the blue & purple is somewhat reminding me of 90's toys, when fluo-green was the new fashion.

I like it, but the blue highlights on the armor are a touch too dark for my tastes. I would do another layer with a lighter blue just on the very edges to add a touch more contrast.

Brighter blue and get rid of the green whip.

Both things i have been thinking of, maybe a fleshy whip, to go with the fleshcrafter theme of the dark eldar

Cool Mar! I like it! I know nothing about Eldar so can't offer advice but I definitely will follow the thread. I think the banner is cool. If you leave it, it's a nod to your friend who gave you the minis, but maybe add a bit more depth to it.

Well i have added some more zing to the blue armor, touched up on a few bits and painted the whip as a fleshy thingy. Much better.

note to self: need to find a non reflective black background

Looks good Mar! For a black background I ended up using a piece of craft foam. You can get a pack of assorted colors cheap at any craft store and the surface is non-reflective. I got mine at Walmart and it's flexible but sturdy. I was surprised at how well it worked.

I love the colour blending on the new whip. The armour definitely has zing now, only thing I would say is the breasts have very er pointy shady, I would make them more crescent shaded to match the highlights on the other sections of armour.

ooh! nice whip. That's made a huge difference. I would never have thought of doing brown to purple. I agree with what Aesu says about the boobs, though. She's looking a bit Pussy Galore at the mo...

Lol....boobs too big...err pointy..

Here are some quick wip shots of the rest of the Trueborn unit. Plus i have assembled the Venom that is going to transport them, well assembled enough to airbrush that is.

Me likey the color of the weapons. Think I will borrow it for when I get around to painting my little hedonisitic sadists (or is that sadistic hedonists?). What colors did you use if you don't mind my asking?

The metals start off as VMC gunmetal grey and VGC Hammered Copper. Wash with Badab Black and highlight with a lighter shade of steel/bronze to taste..

And yeah i must confess.... some of the units in the army are made to be dead killy. Others not so much.

These pics do not do the mini justice at all. Irl there is alot more definition in the colors, the purple-tuquise fade is much more evident and the preshading can be clearly seen. But i am at a loss on how to photo them so that it shows, i have tried numerous background, lighting conditions, yelling etc... but to no avail
