Speed sculpting project?

ive just finished work for christmas and have almost two weeks off. as i have so many unfinished sculpts that ive been working on at embarrassing snails pace, ive decided to show myself how it should be done!

im going to try and do a speed piece to encourage myself to be less of a perfectionist (well, i cant say perfectionist as my results so far have been far from perfect...!). for me, a speed sculpt will be days rather than the months / years (!) im used to!

can i have some suggestions as to what i should sculpt? i know a few people will (quite rightly) say i should finish off stuff ive started, but this is something i fancy to challenge myself :)

ive been sculpting a lot of plague marines (surprise surprise i hear you say!) so may try another chaos chapter. for me itll be about creating an original, complete mini in as short a time as possible. i may even set up a wip thread for it

If you are interested in doing speed sculpture, don\'t do it in green stuff, and don\'t do it in 28mm scale.

Pick up some plasticine (non-hardening clay) and sculpt something a bit larger. Make a human figure that\'s 8 inches tall or so. Sculpt a bust the size of your fist. You\'ll have an incredible amount of freedom without having to worry about the clay drying out. Sculpting bigger is the easiest way to learn how to control your tools and get the shapes you want, as well as judge proportions.

At least that\'s what I\'d recommend! :D

If you\'re still determined to do greenstuff sculpture at this scale, then go for it! Pics please :)

Firstly, should be in the WIP section, but hey, what the hell! Here\'s the first WIP shot. It\'s going to be some sort of Plague Marine Sorceror. I thought robes would help me resist spending ages sculpting the armour. The tentacle styled belt was somewhat inspired by \'Svartmetall\'s\' recent posts. Not too keen on the horizontal creases in the robes, but then again, I\'m not after perfection!

I\'d imagine I\'ll have another shot up before the night is through. I have plans for a bizarre staff in his right hand(s!) and some sort of claw for the left. :)

Again, should be in the WIP section, but as I\'ve started a thread I may as well carry on! WIP number two here...

Merry Christmas by the way!

Finished a week or so ago but didn\'t get round to taking a picture til last night! I\'d meant to take WIP pic\'s as I went along but you know how it goes... Not so much as a speed sculpt (illness over Christmas, busy New Year, etc etc...) but a month is quicker than my usual several!

Sorry the pictures not that great... I\'m sure it\'ll look better painted. There are three tentacles winding around each other from the mouth and the head is loosely based on the Lickers from Resident Evil.

Don\'t ask me what it\'s meant to be!!

More of a \'speed sculpt\' is my Valentines bear, although not really that impressive! Still, four short sittings isn\'t too bad for me!

Dammit!! I can\'t believe after all this time I didn\'t even post the correct picture! :flame: The finished mini actually has wings, like a fly... I thought something was missing! I will have to wait til Monday to post the finished pic\'. Apologies!

Right, so I've been getting back into sculpting lately, tying up all my loose-ends (i.e.unfinished projects). Following (loosely) 'mattsterbenz' advice (above) I thought I'd dig out the polymer clay I have stashed before it all dries out. I spent a few hours yesterday sculpting this zombie head...

I started out following a photo guide I found on CMON and then took it from there. The texture may be a little pronounced but I was enjoying working with the material (Super Sculpey). This head was sculpted as a study to aid a green stuff mini I'm currently sculting.

Hopefully more of these to come, plus some updates of WIPs started long long ago...

(PS apologies for resurrecting an old thread, made sense at the time...)
