Spent Bolter Shells

After looking at the silver demon in 40k single in Atlanta, I noticed spent shell casings on the base. Anyone know any good ways to do this?

You can get 1/16 plastic rod that does a pretty good job of it for dirt cheap. That\'s like 1.2mm for those metric types out there.

2mm stuff is also available and works great for \"heavy bolter\" type weapons.

I got 3 foot long rods for like $3 or something, and putting a few on almost every single base for my Ravenguard army, I\'ve used maybe 6\" tops. Including the little ones I\'ve dropped/had fly across the room when they\'re cut off.

FYI if using an Xacto knife to cut the tiny plastic rod, use clear tape and stick it to your cutting surface. Nothing budges until you peel the tape off. Huge timesaver :D

Hey, Ardyer.

Thanks for picking up on that detail. I\'m totally tickled by it and am glad you appreciate it.

I used Evergreen Scale Models stripStyrene rods at .030 inch or .75mm. The package is marked \"210\".

Then they were painted with Vallejo MC red leather, dark flesh, and ivory to achieve the NMM.

Give it a shot. It\'s fun.

And listen to Jericho! I wish I had! The pieces were flying from my knife as I cut. LOL. lol

I was looking for something smaller, but in the end 1.2mm looks closest to what\'s in the clips on the models themselves I think... either way good to hear I wasn\'t the only one with runaway plasticard problems!

i roll a length of greenstuff into a tube of the right diameter and cut off the appropriate sized lengths. it is easy to cut with something sharp as it\'s a bit soft.

it\'s odd, according to so me fluff i read, bolters have caseless ammuniton (kinda like little rockets). gw let the artists put spent cases into their drawings simpley besause they look cool.
