Reading that stories really make me sad. I think its a kind of self discipline to limit the amount of time you do on one thing. Doesn\'t matter if its WOW or the \"normal\" beer in front of the TV screen.
I played WOW for 2 1/2 years like Lok, but I never lost contact to my Real-Life friends and my ex-grilfriend (we quit, but the game was not the reason).
The reason why I started to play in fact was that some of my friends in my hometown told me to try the game. So when we where not acutally hanging out at someone\'s place we were meeting online and played WOW together. I also met a few people in game with whom I\'m still in contact. Thats the positive thing.
But its true that it can become an addiction. I met so many nice people who where really giving up learning or meeting people for the game. I wouldn\'t have done that. I always tried to motivate them to do something different, kind of difficult when you\'re also online..but at least I tried.
And to the hobby thing. In fact people without hobbies scare me. I think these are the real crazy people...its like having no meaning/interest at all and just living....Hell, hobbies make people interesting, loveable
