Hello, I've been interested in the amazing work people do with mini's for about 25 years, but always from a 'wow look at that!' stance and nothing further really.

Over the last year or so I've been a lot more interested in actually taking part and having a go at seeing what I can create with my own hands :), for the last few months I've been concentrating on getting a proper painting area soted out in my office at home and now it's finally taken shape enough for me to start my journey of discovery.....

My first attempt at painting a mini was posted up here some time ago and I believe it's in my gallery, but this will be the beginning of the learning process in a more concetrated effort.

First subject is a mini that my wife bought for me three or so years ago (a longer story which I may go into at some point but not particularly interesting on the grand scale of things) is The Vampire Count of Sylvania, Mannfred von Carstein, and here is the start of him.....

I've got a lot more work to do on the cloak yet, it doesn't quite look how I want it and it needs a huge amount of smoothing out yet.

I'm more than happy for any comments or criticisms, at the moment I'm struggling with both the actual application of paint (getting the hang of it each time I try though) and the photographing of the minis, apologies for the sub-optimal pictures - I just don't seem to be able to take any really good ones, these are the best of the 20 or shots I've taken since painintg this far.....

Stuff about the mini I'm troubled by so far:
1) Painting the face to look 'vampirey' (already started with a base coat of VMC 'Ivory' which you can just about tell)
2) The colour (scheme) for the armour and fur

Thanks for looking!

Are you planning to add highlights to the demons or whatever coming out of his cloak? At the moment, it took me several seconds to register that they were there. Just don't make them highlighted more than the Count himself, or it will pull the eye away.

Anyway good start, and looks like an interesting figure to paint.
