Spray-on vs Brush-on Primer

I also voted in between. I tend to use glass and tile medium as a brush on since that\'s easier than going outside and setting up the paint booth. If I want to prime several minis I will do that with a spray. White or black depending on the figure.

Hey Anthony, how goes school? I may have to try some of the foundation white and see how that works.

Has anybody tried the new Reaper Master Series White primer? I am courious to see if it is a lot better than the pro series.

@ Wren, I had simialer problems with the Reaper PS primer as well the stuff I had clumped up on everything, the brush, lid, threads.

Should one use water or thinner to thin down ones primer?

Usually I have a whole bunch of minis to prime at once, so spraying white is my option. As for clogging details, perhaps I use too little primer, but I like a light dusting of primer rather than colouring the miniature completely white. A wash of black or brown with floor wax does my shading for me.

@Drake: school is done! Yay! I now have a BS in CS. Of course, that means I have to find a job now... :( On the upside, I do have some time for some painting, and with this weather (WTF) I should be able to get some spray priming done. ;)

Sprays definitely rock for multiple primings.

A Bachelor\'s of Science in Counter Strike? Sweeeeeet.

My last pre-painting step used to be to carefully eyeball the mini and rub or scrape off any clumps that got on it. The last bottle I bought I transfered to a dropper bottle, and I have had far fewer clumping problems.

Exactly the reason I prefer Vallejo over my old Citadel Smelly Primer. Chunks in the primer really sucks. Not as much as painting over them without relaizing it though, and then having to pick the resultant \"wart\" out of a half finished paint job :(

@ NSA - I hate that. I hate it even more than finding that somehow my sister\'s short fine hair cat has decided to make the mini look like a little miniature kitten-thing with her hair. I swear that cat\'s hair is fine enough that it goes through screens.

@ Val and Drake - Actually, from what I hear the weather isn\'t supposed to hold. :~( So instead let\'s all get together in Northgate and drink coffee and geek out about primer! Maybe I\'ll see if F&S has Vallejo white primer as well, just for giggles. Who knows, maybe Kyle has gotten around to restocking his Confrontation too. lol Sorry...I almost said that with a straight face.

Heh. I wish... I haven\'t played Counter Strike in a couple of years, so I definitely suck at the moment. I wasn\'t that great before, anyways. ;)

(And yes, I\'m doing my darnedest to hijack Drake\'s thread lol )

Sundays are currently no good for me, since that\'s our regular game day. Currently, we\'re playing Evernight, a Savage Worlds setting.

For my brush-on primer the first thing I do is dump it all into a much better sealing container and make sure to have an agitator in with it, and water it down some. When I use it I water it down even more, so much so that I actually usually end up using 2-3 very thin coats to fully cover the model.

Yeah, okok, I know it takes a lot longer, but it ends up being VERY thin, and just the surface I like to paint on, so for 5 minutes, it\'s worth it for me.

i use spray on because i\'m lazy and only use a really thin dusting of primer. have used gw in the past but today i bought some halfords stuff. it\'s grey too so that\'s new. looking foreward to using it

spray on, mostly beacuse it`s more durable and I can achieve nice, thin, smooth surface faster. of course there are alwys some parts that spray couldn`t reach so I correct them with brush on. also zenithal basecoating I`ve been experimenting with recently would be difficult to apply with brush-on :D .

Brush on for me. It gives me control rather than submitting to the vagaries of sprays. Additionally, with a clear primer, I can tint it any color I want to begin establishing the undercolor I want.

The only time I spray is when I am prepping the 1000 or so figs for Origins.

I use grey 2 dollar primer from wal mart. Its actual primer and not grey spray paint. It works exactly the same as the rediculously priced primers frm the game shop.

And I always use grey. I hate white, its too bright. And black is just a pain in the ass to paint over. Grey shows the true color with just two thin coats of whatever color you are using.
