Sproket's WIP

The hairs seem a bit to straight, all in the same direction. I'd give them a gentle, random curl or wave to make 'm more dynamic.

Looks fabulous, Sproket. I'd shorten the hairs a bit too: I think you need to see the ends framed by the ear to make sense of it as hair. Right now they end right in front of the first crescent-shaped crevice of the ear, so your eye loses track of them. Shorten them by about a third, with irregular lengths, and they would be framed beautifully.

Completely agreed with the above. And such an idea! very appropriate to the miniature character xD

Thanks for all the feedback Guys.
Every now and again this hobby gives me reason to pause for thought and consider just how surreal it can get! ... So now I'm about to try and put a bit of a curl into a goblin's ear hair! :silly!::rotfl::laugh::rotfl:

Yup, it feels a bit weird to speak about the hairs in the ear of a goblin.... xD xD xD

I have heard of nose goblins , but not ear goblins.
Add a bit of white or grey to the hairs and they would stand out as hairs a bit more .
nice work on the eye Sprocket

OK ... this conversation has gone to a very strange place!

Moving on to something more normal I've shortened the ear hairs but alas they won't hold a curl (when I said more normal I meant more normal than Andy's post ... almost anything would be more normal than Andy's post).

The hat & head are just about done so I'm moving on to the body. I want to get everything assembled ASAP so I can work on the piece as a whole.

Still in shock ^^

Are the eyes varnished shiny or did you added those white lines? I am not able to say if it's one thing or the other oO'

It's varnish. There are also some simple painted highlights but the gloss gives a very nice 'sparkle' to the eyes. I've also used it to make the blind eye look a bit weepy.

I just can't fathom the texture of that hat. If it was a woman calling me at sea I'd jump overboard and swim after it until I drown...

I like the shorter hairs in his ears. I am continually mind blown by the depth you create with your paints.

And I'm extra pleased that you are happy for novices such as myself to voice their opinions and ask questions. :)

As ArchArad said, just the depth and texture you've achieved with your paints is beautiful... Even just as a hat floating around on a paint bottle lid, it's a pleasure to look at! I cannot wait to see what this masterpiece looks like when you have it complete.

Thanks Guys.

Wow.

Any chance you can share how you did the leather?

I'm planning to do a tutorial but to do it properly I will need to setup & take some step-by-step photos. the process is deceptively simple, at it's core it just involves a variation of stippling & glazes. It's one of those things that it will be far easier to show than it would be to describe.
