This is a super well done design, it is so crisp... and when one considers the size of the shield, it is astounding! :claply: :worship!:

Epic, the harder I look the more interested I am about technique and how you make it so good . . .

It's time to unveil my latest work-in-progress and this time I've gone for a bit of a fairy tale theme. The mini is 'Squarg the Frog Rider' from Blacksmith Miniatures. I'm taking a different approach to painting the frog from my usual method and working with transparent layers over a light base colour. The intention is to leave the highlight areas with less layers of paint on them, so that light base colour shows through more than in the shaded areas. If successful this way of painting will give a rich and luminous colour, as the light passes through the layers of paint to bounce off the light basecoat beneath.

How serendipitous I was literally just talking with Skeletets about this very technique (in a very rough way I'm doing it with my current piece) and then lo and behold you post the perfect example of it. Bravo sir. Lovely highly realistic paint job here I especially like the eye it does indeed trompe l'oeil! Also slightly miffs me as I have been looking for this piece as it is totally lovely sculpt and I forgot to buy it at salute! Ah well next pay day it's on the list of things I must have.:)

I will be very interested to see how you do the shield which is one of my favourite bits of this model as it really reminds me of old school gw.

Poor frog, he's been screwed. Life like. Interesting more techniques to try looks like it's working.
