I love the hints of purple in the armor, and how vibrant the colors are. Completely opposite of how most people paint Nurgle stuff, it's so refreshing. He could be dropped into any aquarium and be perfectly at home.

That must be 88 or 89. It looks like I had just discovered brown! The Tank is my one and only Space Marine project and the Chimera was the first time I ever used reference pics for a mini. I rephotographed the Chimera last year.

David I actually am soooo jealous of this model.I mean all your work is amazing but this piece you just went ballistic on this kinda creative pallete only could be existing in the mind of David soper.the greatest thing is just getting lost in looking at this over and over.I really have nothing else to say other than I love viewing your work.it's a real treat to see things like this.in life there are painters and than there are artists your works fall into the category of the latter.really outstanding really a super awesome masterpiece I cannot stop looking at this piece.it's such a great project and so lifelike ,those tentacles top tier level work all the time but this I particularly enjoy.thanks for sharing my man.

Hello David, just want to drop a line to say that I am probably your biggest fan, one of the reason that helped me not abandon trying to come back on top. The reason why I still want to work and win another Slayer sword is you. I was really discouraged after my break of 10 years I told myself there's no way I can come back like when I left all glorious, there's no &*%(* way. Of course that was the down me talking but I pursued and pursued and one day I discovered you, the guy who won a sword on 1990 and 23 years later wins another one. Thanks David, oh also thanks for the no primer tip, it helps me really much :)

Thanks for the wonderful words.

It’s all a bit embarrassing really but in the nicest possible way! I’ve probably said this before but the thing that surprised me about my ‘comeback’ was that people still remembered my minis and my name from all those years ago.

Jocelyn, if I’m proof of one thing it’s that it is possible to come back from the ‘wilderness years’ and win again. I won’t pretend that it’s not a daunting and difficult prospect (but then you know that anyway) but it really can be done.

Moving on to current matters I’m up to my neck in tentacles and slime as I’m adding some ‘special effects’ to Gutrot Spume :nailbiting!:. I’ve also decided that I need to do a bit more with some areas of the paint job that I’d thought were finished. I’m happy with what I’ve done but he needs a bit more weathering & damage to take him up a level. There always seems to be more that needs to be done with this mini but it looks like the effort is paying off.

I’ll get some pics of the new work posted as soon as I can .

Remembering David's painting from the late 80's and seeing the work he's doing now, there is a difference.
David was Top Rung back then, now the Git's extended the ladder and climbed even higher!

Methinks the Skill Equalising Hammer needs to get dusted off and applied liberally.

yeah even if we remove the fingers with a bolt cutter he will learn to paint with his toes........to a better standard no doubt just to p us off!! :)

Oh now I see where you are coming from with this. Woah...it just jumped up by like 3 levels with those effects. You are a wizard! What manner of foul sorcery is this???!!!

Very much impressed, you are simply adding to the ranks of drool sputtering fan-boys with each completed miniature. I'm assuming there is a good write up of these effects on the blog?! If you base this guy properly (and you will,of course,as this be your greatest skill) then you will have written the book for Captain Gutrot. When you said you had the basing link I provided saved for reference already, does this mean Gutrot will be based on a ship???

Damn, I hope you share the secret of that fabulous, disgusting slime! That's no Nurgle's Rot straight from the jar, that's for sure.
