Spyglass Asylum sculpting tips: armatures

As some of you may already know I recently started a blog, Spyglass Asylum. It's for a lot of my random thoughts regarding miniatures in one way or another. As I often get people asking about my various sculpting techniques I thought that I would post occasionally about such things and my first sculpting post is today. I have posted a blog entry on my approach to making armatures. Hope you'll pop on by and take a look.

It's not so much about being allowed to show more (I asked permission to show this and haven't asked about more). I just don't think this figure is ideal for teaching sculpting. Plus my process tends to be a little chaotic. If I do a full tutorial then I'll probably tailor something to the subject.

As for proportions my best tip is to use another figure as reference. For this figure I have a casting of The Major, another figure I sculpted for Elodie Mae, and use that to get the proportions and scale from so the range looks correct. Otherwise anatomical pictures are useful. After the amount of years I've been doing this I can mostly work proportions by eye though.
