Spyglass - Maris, (not so) dark mistress

Hi all,

don\'t worry, I won\'t bother you with every submission I may post on CMON in the future ;) but I\'d really like some comments and critique on my second mini here as it is the first one I made some kind of elaborate base for:

Maris with water lilies

Unlike the original name of this mini I tried to use only very soft and light colours on her. I think it worked quite well.
The colours of her dress and cape are almost the same I used on the water lilies (which are made of green stuff - I\'m really not good in using it though... ). When I had finished her I thought she looked quite like a flower, hence I got the idea for the base and the small freehand on her skirt.

Please tell me what you think.
Thanks,
Telcontari

Looks really nice. Did the vote thing. She looks sweet. I like the freehand on the dress and the fact the pink and flowers tie the whole thing together. Great work.

Excelently done, and I agree the soft colors suit her.
The lilies seem a bit large scale is my only critique.

I haven\'t seen one of her in person and never realized girl got bootie.

First off, welcome. Second off, it really is no bother. In fact, I\'d think it is encouraged. The heading for this category is DISCUSS SUBMISSIONS for a reason. So feel free to link up any of your new stuff!!

The mini is very nice. The base is well done. It does seem the paint could be smoother in spots, but I love the color scheme. Simple and innocent (except for that deadly sword!).

I know that \'black lining\' is a stylistic choice, but I think it would give better definition to many of the areas had you used it. Looking forward to seeing more.

Thanks :) . Again, you are all very encouraging. I almost feel like going to the next room and start my next mini right now :D .

I was thinking about black lining but I just got the feeling that it would\'nt fit the kind of paintjob I had in mind for her. Actually, I don\'t know if it suits my painting style at all. But perhaps I\'ll try that on the next one.
Well, and smoothness is something I know I have to work on... I tried very much but as you said, there are still some spots where I didn\'t get it right... Ah, again: next time ;) .

It\'s true, they are a bit large. As I said before, I\'m no great artist with greenstuff (too impatient  ). BUT they are not that oversized as in the picture. It\'s the perspective... They were much nearer to the camera than the mini itself and I just could not manage to get a good shot that would show the right proportions.

You can use other paints than black to do this if you want a more subtle effect. I generally use a darker tone of one of the neighbouring colours.

Wow, that\'s really cool. I love to see my sculpts interpreted in different ways. It was one of my major influences on the style of Spyglass when I set up. I really wanted to produce figures that leant themselves to alternate colour choices. So, seeing original paintjobs is always gratifying...

I\'m not sure I echo the idea of blacklining for the figure. Quite often this only seems to look necessary for the figure in the photo and looks fine in reality. Possibly it might benefit from some subtle darklining but it looks great right now and I think any contrasting lining could wreck the somewhat serene style of the mini.

Beautiful work.

 Uh-oh! Seems I\'ve been doing a bit of misreading again! I always thought it was called DISCUSS SUBMISSIONS because it was where we could discuss things we were willing to submit to  Damn :duh:

@Telcontari - Lovely piece! One of the joys of this sight is occasionally coming across COMPLETELY NEW interpretations of pieces.
