Squigball 3000 GD Duel Project

had this idea a little while ago for a diorama, changed it a little for a duel. the squigs will be painted in race trim, with go faster stripes and numbers. thinking about placing a trophy on the tree stump to show more of a race scence, although i want to avoid it lookin like a start/finish line...
the area behind the wall will have some long grass their, and am thinking about sculpting a badger in the hole in the tree...

I love this concept, and kudos for sharing GD entries and not playing your hand close to your chest!

Great work so far, however, I have been aware of some beautiful duel entries not placing before as the pieces were not \'dueling\' (ie-locked in battle). so it may be worth bearing this in mind.

I would also avoid a badger in the tree hole as it would come across as too real life and not Warhammerey enough- how about a snotling cowering for life from the rampaging squigs? it would add the extra detail and still tie in with the warhammer imagery.

Looks really cool, but the only thing that worries me is, does this fall in to th erules?

CATEGORY 8 - DUEL

This category comprises two single models mounted on a single 40mm or 50mm Slottabase. The judges will be looking for a dynamic pairing of two well-matched opponents in some kind of combat or other dramatic situation. Models may be from the Warhammer, Warhammer 40,000 or The Lord of The Rings ranges.

Is this a 40 or 50mm slotta base?
It does really erk me that they put up these rules, but hardly anyone adhears to them, and a lot of the winners are not on the correct bases asked for.

It looks great but I wouldn\'t say it is a duel and I know for the uk golden demon they are being a lot stricter on entries. I was told that after the duel comp with the model of a soldier having water poured on him from a window above they got a fair few complaints saying it wasn\'t a duel. So even though this took a statue then I think they wont let it happen again. That being said if you did a top paint scheme on this one you should enter it in the open category, with a larger base and more of the scene it could do well.

@Orkydave - no worries, although it is a little on the selfish side why i posted it lol, am under no illusions, am not at GD winning standard, so the whole GD experience, for me, is about learning and improving, so if i can get some tips and advice as the project goes on all the better :innocent:
also i see your point about the badger, but wouldlnt a snotling be considered an additional mini? perhaps a immature squig be better?

@Atacam&OrkyDave - i have looked at the rules, the base is 50mm square exactly, I do think the piece is walking the line between diorama and duel, althought the rules are very open to interpretation, the guys are racing, novice vs pro, i personally would say that is combat, perhaps more psycological more than physical (although with goblins who can be sure), but its still combat, i suppose its a case of wait and see

Well the combat seems a bit one sided at teh moment as one goblin has a whip yet the other is weaponless, would it be fair then to even the odds so that the one riding backwards also has a wip in his hand so it seems like he has just turned around on his squigg ready to fend off the other goblin that is closing on him???

Also I agree with the badge not fitting the Warhammer model as designed by GW so how about the head of a small sqigg in the hole of the tree and maybe a snotlings arm or leg in its mouth, that should then negate the extra issue dilema.

give one of them a spear or similar to be prodding at the other guy or throwing little bombs anything along those lines clears up the duel aspect..???Or have the back one hooking the front one?? use the old noodle a touch.

Regards the base the base block is 50mm square Yes??? Then just pop it on top of a 50mm slotta base . Just makes it visually obvious it\'s on the right size base...

Like it and love the idea . the basework is great although I\'d be tempted to had a bit of relief to it . maybe just a slight incline to the whole thing????

Glad to hear it. Just wouldnt want it getting disqualified after all the hard work. Especially if they are going to get tougher, and actually apply the rules to the competition.
