If you hold almost any movie adaptation up against the novel it was based on, it\'ll come off second best.
Case in point: Alien³

I\'ll probably get flamed for this but, how about The Lord of the Rings by Peter Jackson?Message original : Gilvan Blight
Was there ever a movie adaptation ever created that was actually better then the original book?

Yeah, that\'s what I meant. Even if a movie\'s not as good as the book it can still be good, even if in a different way.Originally posted by Spacemunkie

It is in the sense that you can\'t compare apples with oranges.
No excuse for making a crap movie in its own right mind.

I hated the original movie with a passion, I still consider it to be one of the nastiest pieces of puritanical neo-nazi B.S ever made.
A lot of people argue that it was \"satirical\" but think again: after the movie came a CGI animated series for kids.
You need to give Paul Verhoeven more credit. Like his stuff or no he speaks well about what his films and he\'s pretty eloquent on this one. You\'ll still think it\'s rubbish of course, but not neo-Nazi rubbish.Originally posted by Sauce Devil

The series and the film have so little relation I don\'t think you can use the fact that there was a series to criticise the movieOriginally posted by Sauce Devil

Nothing immediately comes to mind, but I can\'t help but think there must have been at least one case where the silver screen was better then the paper page.

\"The word ‘Fascism’ is almost entirely meaningless. In conversation, of course, it is used even more wildly than in print. I have heard it applied to farmers, shopkeepers, Social Credit, corporal punishment, fox-hunting, bull-fighting, the 1922 Committee, the 1941 Committee, Kipling, Gandhi, Chiang Kai-Shek, homosexuality, Priestley\'s broadcasts, Youth Hostels, astrology, women, dogs and I do not know what else... almost any English person would accept ‘bully’ as a synonym for ‘Fascist’.\" – George OrwellOriginally posted by JohnC

\"Children of Men\" was a much better movie than the book! The novel had it\'s moments, but the snail\'s pace was brutal. The movie picked up and ran without stopping til the end.
Both versions are good, and worth reading/watching, but I\'m going to side with the movie.
I liked the SST movie! I know it\'s crap, but I had fun with it anyway. I haven\'t seen the sequels, but part of me wants to, just to see what the hub-bub\'s about.
I like the SST book. Didn\'t Heinlein get himself into trouble over it\'s \'fascist\' contenet? I could be wrong, I know I\'ve heard someone say that somewhere, sometime...
Well, being able to poop over the side would mitigate lack of functional plumbing which IMO would be a major drawback in a post-apocalyptic setting lolOriginally posted by ScottRadom
But if we\'re talking about horrible movies with the assy emoticon in them I go for my least favorite movie of all time \"I am Legend\" love the book, hate, hate, hate the movie.
How are those crazy zombie things a threat? Just go live on the aircraft carrier and close the bulkead door! They CAN\'T hurt you! Any gamer could not only live in the \"I am Legend\" setting but apart from the horrible loneliness probably have a WAY better standard of home living.
