Would this be Tau XV9 Hazard Close Support Armour? (only kidding, i just looked it up on the FW site :p)

Personally i like to see Tau models painted with more darker shades than they normally are, but im not sure if this would work out with thier background/fluff (i dont play 40K)

Resin tips, get some really fine wet&dry abrasive paper and try not to drop the model onto any hard surfaces :)

Well back from Gamesday it was fun but have not slept in over a day zzzzzzz
just before i pop off to bed i thought i would tell you that i picked up my xv9 battlesuit but there are a few parts missing "pics in morning" now they were not giving away receipts at the forgeworld stand or should i say scrum so i don't know what my chances are of getting replacements from forgeworld grrr.

ps.

i was thinking of going for a Turquoise scheme for the tau but i need some ideas on complimentary colors to go with it.

I've never had to show a receipt when reporting a mispack, just the product number. And since they are terrible at giving receipts at GD they're probably a bit more forgiving as well. Every time I've had to report a mispack they've sent me an entire new model for free.

I use a Turqoiuse / Pale Grey/White scheme for my Infinity PanO army. (I add in some Green and Red armour sections to pop some of the larger models.)

It works well for these. :)

The pose is a complete accident as once i had glued the left leg in place with the hips the other leg did not sit right on the Base hence the landing/running arrangement :)

Of course after this i was not finished and started painting....

To be honest i think i painted a little to quickly and have made some mistakes

The colors used are Hawk Turquoise, Ice Blue, Skull White, Boltgun Metal and Mithril Silver.
apologies as i am new to using photoshop, some of the colors may be a bit off as i am colorblind and have difficulty distinguishing shades of color.

OK fire away comments and constructive criticism welcome.

hi,

not a bad beginning.
Only comment i can give you at this time is: trie when you hard line to make it an actual line.
The effect that hard lining creates will become less if the line isn't perfect.

Well the exact complementary color for turquoise would be an orangey red. That'd probably look good here as a spot color or something.

i agree with Necroghast on the complimentary color, but i can only really find one spot on the mini where te color wouldn't look out of place... and that's the lenses....

if i were you, i'd make the lenses an orange red, and stick to the current colourchoice.

or were you planning on including other colors as well???

Lenses would work, you could even look at painting the half spheres on his knees in a complementary tone as well

I Decided to go with gunmetal on the top as i thought more Turquoise or White would be to much.

on a unrelated note Here's a half finished Sicarius that i have been working on at the same time as the XV9.

Your Sicarius is ok but you could dilute more your paint to bend better the highlights, even for the metallic paints despite it is harder. Also shade more the recesses of the armour to make a better contrast on it.
PS: I don't like painting nmm but I think it has a really beautiful look when it's good painted.

Yes i really should start thinning my paints down and not keep using them straight out of the pot.

the more i look at the photos of the xv9 the more i think that all of the lenses should be Red/Orange rathet than one of them Blue,

i think i will think on it for another day.

looking better everytime i look!!

Yes, red/orange would make (i think) a beter choice; there is already a lot of blue in your model so using red/orange will make it really stand out.

Thanks, i did decide to go for a red orange on the lens. I am just working on the Right arm at the mo, some pics in the next day or two..

the paint scheme you have chosen for the tau really pops nice one, dont know if you have any of the dawn of war games but they have an army painter function which might prove useful if you want to get a rough idea on a colour scheme before actually painting.
ouch you dont have to be drunk to do that ,.. but it helps.
