Starting an Ogre horde

Hullo, I've just started painting up some of the new Ogre models this evening. Working on the Finecast ones first (which weren't exactly brilliant casts if anyone is curious) as my order from Wayland with the new plastics in hasn't arrived.

I sprayed them this afternoon and this evening I managed to get in three hours painting and made some reasonable progress. Mostly focused on the Firebelly so far. Still have lots to finish off but the flames and smoke, green material, funny bug talisman and base are all sorted and the metal's on the way. Hoping I'll have him completed in another hour or so. I've also made a very basic start to the other two as well.

If anyone has any thoughts on 'em would be great to have some feedback before I spend my day off tomorrow trying to finish them.

These are certainly lovely models! I love the smoke effect on the mage and the skin looks real nice. They will look cool when finished, I have no doubt after seeing what you did in three hours there! That would take me about three days lol. Look forward to the finished result.

Well, I got up later than planned, but here's the Firebelly almost completed after another hour or so. Some touch ups, smoothing and details to work on, but he's just about there. I think I need a break though, because I'm starting to get a headache. Does anyone else get this when they paint. Starting to think I may need to get my eyes tested as it seems to be somewhat frequent. :(

As for how I get it done so fast... I dunno, the pre-highlighting with an airbrush helps, but I think it's also that I just keep very busy, move from one bit to another instantly and I'm not a complete perfectionist!

Wow, that really is excellent especially for how quick you completed it in, airbrush or not! I'll need to learn how to use one of them! Hopefully the birthday fairy brings me firebelly on Thursday, I hope it turns out half as good as yours!

I used to get sore heads when focusing too long on something, bd it a book, computer or model and got my eyes tested. I can see fine but there was a wee focusing thing there so got a pair of glasses for painting etc, headaches went away! The glasses just sit at my desk, to look through them you'd just think it was a bit of normal glass, theres no noticeable prescription to them!
Might be worth an eye test!

I get headaches all the time when I get caught up in something or other. Mine are from caffeine withdrawal though, get all artistic and I don't bother chugging down dozens of cups of caffeinated beverage...

Opticians for me soon I think. I am going to be painting more and more as I'm going part-time at work and making up cash by painting stuff for Ebay, so I can't have my eyesight failing! It's not caffeine withdrawal for sure. I already went through that for a lengthy period a few months back. I was utterly addicted to the stuff and just a mess of non-sleep because of it. I'm totally decaffeinated now. I miss good quality coffee so much! :(

Anyway, I have glued together a ton of stuff today. An Ironblaster, 6 Mournfang riders, a Thundertusk and this Stonehorn, which I've managed to get done this evening. I think it's taken me 4 and a half hours, which I'm fairly happy with for speed. It's flippin' massive! Need to paint the saddle bit and the Hunter, then base it up. Should hopefully get it finished up tomorrow. Looking at the pictures, I've clearly rushed the strapping as well, so I'll tidy that up.

That is superb! I love the colors on the fur, it looks really natural, for such an unnatural looking beast :) Hard to critique so I won't, I will just say i really like the direction youre going. Also, I'm thinking about purchasing this kit myself as it just looks so cool, how ridiculous was it to put together, and prep? (gap filling, mould lines and the like)?

It wasn't too bad actually. It's the standard thing with their big kits these days, lots of sections that cleverly interlock and end up really flush. Not much clean up and prep at all and I didn't have to do any gap filling. Some bits are a little fragile and I had to take care getting them off the sprue and cleaning them up, but other than that, it was all good.

Just unboxed my Finecrap Gorger... 8 air bubbles, 1 solid block of resin under one of the heads making it unusable, and you guessed it, a large ball of green stuff sat on the side waiting to cure a little before I start filling the grand canyon of gaps between the various parts...I swear any other company wouldnt get away with this quality of product....and £15.50? Lord help meQ

PS LONO - VERY NICE WORK SO FAR!

Yup, I feel your pain, I had to heat up and manipulate the Firebelly until his head and flame bit all fitted into place properly, and all the Finecast Ogres I've seen so far are bristling with air bubbles on their undersides in particular. The sculpts are really lovely, but it's a shame they are such a bother.

The plastics on the other hand, no problems with them. The big beastie is done. Quite happy with the result: http://www.coolminiornot.com/287069

Guys, call GW customer support. Or stop in to the local GW, either one will sort you out with a new replacement. Hell, if you call it in, they'll probably ship you a replacement and tell you to keep the original miscast one. I mean, they used to be really great for correcting those issues.

Anyway, I really like the fur and skin on the beasts. Nice and subtle, not so harsh like fur and hair tends to be on most figures.

More painting going on tonight. Trying to finish up a Thundertusk. I've just about got the main bits of the beastie done, but there's plenty to tidy up and all the horns and whatnot to do, then I can get started on the riders.

I'm also distracting myself with a big unit of Mournfang Cavalry which have a lot left to do.

Done a bit more work on it, but I'm getting tired and a little burnt out on the painting thing tonight, so time to put it on hold until tomorrow. The beast is mostly sorted but the horns need some extra washes and fine edge highlights, the metals have details to be done and the straps still need a bit of work. Think the flesh is a little better now I think - I'm going for a hint of icy power lurking within the beast to suit the backgorund - but it just doesn't seem to be coming out quite as good as the Stonehorn did overall. Perhaps riders will pull it together more.

You are a painting machine. Great work on these guys. Like the colour on the horns of the last one particularly.
