Steam venting

well, i lost horribly 2 games in a row, and now i have to vent some steam...:flame:

1000 pts night gobbos and 1000 pts Bretonians Vs. 2000 Pts Ogre\'s.

First of all i 100% screw up my deployment, but thats not the point...

In turn 2, my opponent manages to charge my trolls with a Giant, and wins the combat. The trolls break, panics the general AND army standards Gobbo unit, which flees trough (Read: Just scraping their edge) my other 30 gobbo regiment, and flees into Impassable terrain and dies, together with the trolls.
The 30 gobbos then panic and flees into the same wall, and my 24 archers and shaman panics of the board.

62 gobbos lying deadup in front of an impassable rock, and 25 gobbos running for the hills...
After the battle i thought the following 2 things:

1). Wow, gobbos s*ck, and...

2). Wow, the trapped ruling CERTAINLY s*ck!
What the hell is the idea of that? Now a unit cant even guard their back with a rock for fear of running into it and dying!

Also, the new empire list ain\'t very good either...
Enter Outriders, the Fast cavalry that can\'t move and shoot... wtf? And the hellblaster no longe causes hits... Double WTF? and so on...

Anyhow, that felt nice, back to armylist making...

oh dear......it\'s always gonna start badly gobbos teaming up with knights???????

anyhow I agree that trapping rule is a real git...makes some of the underrated units in the game awesome. sneaky up stuff like gutter runners miners etc and as yousay the extra thoughts of watching what is positioned behind you can be a bit distracting but still we\'ll all get used to it and whenit changes again we\'ll all still say new rules suck when we lose because of them..

also Giant vs Trolls ...wtf did you expect the outcome to be??

You are playing goblins you have to expect panic to be devistating. You need a good leader and a banner to improve that horrible leadership or they are lost.

I didn\'t expect the giant to charge them, as i didn\'t think he could se them, but then it turned out that a straight line from his base scrathed my base.... And slam!

And low Ld ive countered with the best generaæ avaliable to night gobbos, AND an army standard!

Still, they ran.

Can happen to us all.

Few years ago playing historicals, a buddy of mine had an elephant (his) panic and charge throught the same convict unit (also his) (and staked to the ground) not once, not twice, but three times.

Sometimes you just got to laugh.lol

Then the question becomes are you playing house rules or at a LGS or GW shop?

Cause if its house rules, take a page from the Warhammer Rules, and toss that puppy if its not working for you.

We only play using the official rulings, even though they may seem a pain at now!

Ahh.

I dont know about the newer editions, but in the older ones I know that they suggested making modifications or loosing rules that hampered with game play. Have you thought about this with this rule, or do you want to try it a couple more times and see if you can beat it?

I\'m pretty sure the rule was added due to the number of people at tournaments who liked to back their units up against something so they couldn\'t be charged in the rear. They needed to make something to make this tactic a little less viable. Now you can still cover your rear but if you get rushed from the front you get crushed against your own defenses.

I personally think it makes sense and adds to the game as you don\'t end up with as many units just sitting their with thier asses against a wall.

you loose combat, run away, hit the brick wall behind you, decide there\'s nowhere to run and decide to fall on your sword.... what\'s the problem with the logic... (I agree a mass goblinoid suicide isn\'t very likely.. but hey, it\'s an abstract depiction of a large battle..)

Er yeah, in what way do the trapped rules suck?

It\'s perfectly logical that if impassable terrain blocks your rear then you don\'t suddenly morph through it to safety. Note that it just applies to impassible, not difficult or very difficult terrain.

And if you are basing your strategy around gobbo units not running just because a rear charge on them isn\'t possible I would suggest that it may be your tactics, not the rules that are a little stupid! ;)

The way i se the cornered rule as stupid is the fact that if i just flee 1\" into is, my whole damm unit dies, no they dont run around it/chose a different path, the DIE!

But Why? How on the earth does 64 goblins manage to run into a 5 metres long wall, and splatter themselves all over the damm place?

(Oh and yeah, i admit it, i really messed up some stuff in my deployment, but the main problem i a fleeing unit just ecactly cliping the piece of impassable terrain, and DYING!... i just dont get it...)

unlucky...

ah well.... at least my army is safe, being entirely immune to pyscology and all that, but the new rules for empire are a bit duff.
rolling to hit with a helblaster? you just point in the general direction don\'t you????

The trapped rule doesn\'t apply to walls. It\'s only for impassible terrain, whereas walls are obstacles. As per the rule at the top of page 41 \'Due to their disrupted formation they ignore any penalty for obstacles and terrain\'.

So you should have just moved them through the wall with no penalty (assuming that you hadn\'t decided it was impassible before the battle).

64 goblins running into a 5 metre wall and splattering themselves does sounds pretty spot on to me though! Very in character even if it doesn\'t help in the game.

eh.. yeah.. whatever.. It was a very tall Impassable wall, so.. yeah..

Ill just do something else.. -_- At least that doesn\'t happen in Warmachine...

(Oh yeah.. Empire got MAJOR Nerfed.. Their handguns are normal now, roll to hit with the hellblaster, and those Outriders...Those outriders.... movve-or-shoot fast cavalry.. DANGIT!):cussing:
