Step-by-Step Painting Red Tutorial

Helloa,

I\'ve added a new tutorial to my site. Not claiming to be the definitive painting red tutorial or anything, but it\'s a technique that works well for me. And it\'s presented in a pretty spiffy way.

Step-by-Step : Painting Red Tutorial

Hope it helps someone out there. :)

I love the format where you can sort of \"flip book\" through it and see the transitions.
Nice site. I\'m going to use your technique for patchwork to create shoelaces on a figure I\'m working on.

Granddad!
agreed, nice tute and loved the flip-book presentation

you might like to try a yellow glaze after step 10 I find it gives it a richer tone without making it \'orangey\'

Hee, thanks for the kind words, folks. I\'ll probably do future tutorials in a similar format. :)

Regarding the yellow glaze, that\'s a good idea. I left out a lot of the optional colour choices, like mixing in green to deaden the red or adding yellow or carmine red glazes, so forth. The flipbook was getting kinda big. <g>

I don\'t have a problem with doing bright reds. Highlighting with orange, but not getting the orange effect is not too hard. But, I never could get dark reds done well. This might just be the very thing! Thanks, Kep!

I don\'t. It would be useful if the image, menu and text all fitted in the window.

They do.
I have to scroll the screen so the underneath text fits, and that blocks out the above-the-pic text, but as that never changes you only need to read the underneath text.

The final colour is red gore, which is fine if that\'s the colour that you want. There are too many stages in the painting, I would start with the base colour then shade it, and not bother with inks. Very nice website tho.

I gotta say, I love the format of your tutorial... I like being able to just drag the mouse down over each step and watch the mini change... it\'s quite a useful tool to use! good job!
