I went back to Golden Demon UK yesterday for the first time in five years. I thought I'd share some pics of the entries I did and give links to their entries in the gallery (with multiple views and extreme closeups).

Okay, first up is my Empire Greatsword (silver WFB single). I'll file him under a simple heading of 'total git to photograph'.

Voted for and commented etc. Great entries Steve, love them all. especially the rat ogre and cirdan. They definately float my boat. Congratulations on the wins!

agreed, very good haul.

may i enquire how you painted the black cloth on your greatsword, 'twas amazing, and i need to paint a nuln handgunner soon :D

Okay, requests for the cloth on the Greatsword.

White. Started with a mix of Codex Grey, Chaos Black and Snakebite Leather to create a warm dark grey and then was highlighted by just adding more and more white until a pure white final highlight.

Black. Even simpler. Basecoat Chaos Black and highlighted by adding increasing amounts of Dwarf Flesh. I find Dwarf Flesh is a great highlight for black cloth as it gives a flat/dusty look like it's slightly worn. Perfect for Nuln Handgunners. I've painted Nuln stuff before and find they look great with jackets painted in Snakebite Leather.

Congrats on winning a couple of trophies Steve, well done :good:

I really like Cirdan, it's not that often you see an elderly elf, they're usually depicted as being so fresh-faced despite their longevity. You've lost me a little with the feedback you received on the base, a shipwright stood on a dock/ships deck is not thematic? Perhaps the judge just saw an elf & thought it should have a woodland base :sigh: A wonderfully characterful piece. I hope you feel deservedly chuffed :)

I don't like the rat ogre mini at all but the bloke reaching through the grate is a real touch of class & very nicely realised. I approve!

Spoke to you at GD just before the winners announcement (guy asking you about GW / vallejo paints and the WNS7 brushes!). Your models are brilliant, congrats on getting the two silvers! The Rat Ogre is my favorite, skin on him is superb.

Great job on these guys. I really like your clean painting style. Also, never would have thought to highlight black with Dark Flesh, but I think I'm gonna give that a go one of these days to try it out.

They are all grand, but that Rat Ogre has got to be my favorite of all the stuff you've ever painted....I love monsters, and this one is ace!

Careful Elly, it's Dwarf Flesh, not Dark Flesh. I know it sounds even more counter-intuitive but it really works.

LOL thanks for the clarification. I would've been so confused with the results, like what the heck was he talking about? ;)
