Stinky Paint

So I\'ve opened the top of my Brown Wash and been wacked in the nose by this really pungent stench. It would seem that it has gone off???
I didn\'t realise that paint could do that.
(Especially as some of the stuff I\'m using is like 10 years old).
Could anyone explain???

Brown Wash used to contain Shellac. (Tiny flakes of Laquer) What you can smell is the decay of the laquer. I am not sure but I don\'t think that there is a cure allowing it to be used.
Try Windor & Newtons Artisits inks if you can get them. Better quality.

I once had a metallic paint go \"off\", probably for the same reason DR gives. Definitely time to toss it if it starts to smell funky.

Hmmmmm.

Well my GW inks started to smell funky around 10 years ago and I\'m still using them.

The only paint I\'ve had to throw away (other than the stuff in those useless GW pots that dried up) has been my ancient trusty shining gold, lasted almost 20 years (from which you might conclude I don\'t paint enough, but really its just I\'m a stupidly slow painter).

Yeah, i have a can of shellac and i guess (based off the side of the can) it\'s made from bug guts, or their shells or something like that, so it\'s a decay issue. Don\'t open the can untill it\'s first use and buy small-ish cans.

partly, but I\'m also incredibly lazy, bad combination...

He\'s sat on my desk, and I think I\'ve got a much better colour scheme than sethin, I\'m just trying to get the colours right.
