For you biologists out there...

Is this something real or a \'internet viral video\'?

It\'s bizarre, and disgusting.

Apparently it\'s something called a tubifex worm, or rather a group of them. They\'re normally found at the edge of rivers in the soil or whatever.

I\'d be very surprised if this was real, I don\'t recognize it as any life form I\'ve ever heard of. Also, it pushes too many \"movie creature\" buttons, lol

Yeah it\'s likely to be some kind of encysted worm, if not one of the Tubifacidae, then something similar. That pipe looks to have quite a small diameter so those cysts are probably less than a quarter of an inch across. No cause for mahusive sewer beasty panic just yet lol

Well that is gross. Cool news about Cloverfield 2. Loved that show for the throwback to everything I loved abotu Godzilla.

If it was a viral campaign, it\'s a brilliant way to start!

The only bad thing about Viral Campaigns, is that I find them about a year after the \'event\' has come and gone....

I liked Cloverfield too!

It is worms...

RALEIGH – Public utility officials have solved the mystery behind a purported \"sewer creature\" seen in an online video taken under Cameron Village in Raleigh.

Local bloggers at New Raleigh picked up on the YouTube video after it was posted on the Gawker science fiction blog io9.com. The video shows a sewer camera inspecting a pipe under Cameron Village on April 27. The camera stops to focus on several pulsing sacs clinging to the crevices in the pipe.

A YouTube video shows this worm colony in the sewer lines under Cameron Village. Ed Buchan, environmental coordinator at the Raleigh Public Utilities Department, said staff biologists have confirmed that the \"creature\" is actually a colony of tubifex worms. The colonies attach themselves to roots that gradually work themselves into weak points in the pipes.

\"They seem to respond to the light from the camera,\" Buchan said. \"That light is pretty hot.\"

Very very bizarre....

It reminds me of the HUNTER in HALO, which are supposedly an entire colony of worms banded together to form a creature...
