anyother types of stuff that you can buy generally. eg. DIY or Craft shop. To strip plastic.

I am trying to strip the paint from the \"Wizards of the Coast\" starwars minis (for obvious reasons) brake fluid seems to have no effect.

Any thing else I can try??????

Okay.......Wizards of the Coast minis are tuff little cookies. so far:

This is what I\'ve done to try and strip the paint so far.

72hrs in Brake Fluid - No effect
48hrs Oven Cleaner - No effect

Where can I buy \"Simple Green\" in the UK B&Q doesn\'t sell it?

On the WOTC website (or a forum on it... I can\'t quite remember) they suggested using Pinesol to strip the D&D minis. I would think they would be similar to the Star Wars mins that they produce so I\'d probably give the Pinesol a try.

Brake fluid will do nothing to these minis. I\'ve stripped HeroClix prepainted minis with acetone (ie nail polish remover). It doesn\'t attack the underlying rubbery mini but you have to remove the combat dial becasue acetone will make short work of styrene!

I didn\'t realise they were\'nt standard plastic, Nail varnish remover would melt normal plastic.

Can I use white spirits or is that a bit too strong?

Can\'t say for sure, but in the part of the USA where I live, the grocery stores and department stores don\'t carry it. I happened to discover though that car parts stores do.
So try your equivalent of a NAPA auto parts store (where you go to buy anything from wiper blades to headlamps to break shoes....).

Somebody mentioned in a thread a short while ago that Dettol might work, worth a shot if you have some.

Not at all, white spirits are actually quite mild and it\'s very unlikely they\'ll have any effect on these paints. It certainly won\'t harm the plastic if you want to try it.

Nail polish remover is usually acetone and this can attack many soft plastics so be careful.

Well I decided to drop the little bugger into a small pot of Nail Polish Remover.

After a vilonet fizzz, and some foam appearing, I thought it was a gonna.

Swish it around a bit, pour it out, and BINGO, there it was virtually clean as a whistle.

WOTC mini\'s + Nail Polish remover = stripped mini

Yup got some bust ( hellsing) that are made out of soft plastique and have some kinda of plastic paint. Tried break fluid but it had little effect unless I let the bust in for a month. But acetone works just fine, gota be carfull not to forget the mini in it but it works fine. Oh and don\'t try pouring the acetone in a plastic glass  DOn\'t know waht I was thinking, good think the thing was in the sink :p

Finally got around to stripping the first of my models. It\'s working pretty well. I\'m using Pinesol and leaving the models in for around 24 hours, although I\'m sure I could take them out sooner. I\'ll try to get some before and after shots posted soonish. :p

doesn\'t work on the WOTC figures - left one for a month and all that happened was a piney fresh smell. I wan\'ted to repaint some of the monsters, and just gave up trying to find some way to strip them without melting. Someone on the wizards site suggests some sort of leather restorer (I think, its been a long time since I \'ve been over there, and the cogs haven\'t had their morning coffee yet).

im not sure what is breaking fluid ( sorry for mi bad en glish) but to remove the colors of mi old minis y just use first aid 96º alcohol and scrub it whit an old and hard thootbrush.
it works whit plastic and metal minis, and acrilic colors and dont damage the mini and glue, but you must work hard to remove all the paint.
may anyone teach me about breaking fluid?

Brake fluid is the stuff put in car braking systems. I\'m not sure what chemical it is, I just know that once it soaks up water it becomes less effective in the car and turns brown. It must be bad for paint, because there are always warnings not to spill it on the car over the bottle

Oven cleaner WILL damage plastics. Pinesol works but takes a long time (at least a week, more if varnished) and lots of scrubbing. Pinesol has a tendency to stain mini\'s if left to long. Also pinesol will damage plastics.

Simple green works about as well as pinesol but is more expensive, but environmental friendly!! Haha!

100% isopropyl alcholol will work but takes even more scrubbing then the other two methods. It will not damage plastics.

Brake fluid works better get atleast DOT3 better yet DOT4. I use gloves. It gives off harmful fumes and I don\'t like to put plastic in it too long. Also it is relatively expensive.

CSC (Castrol Super Clean) works great, but again I don\'t leave plastics in it for too long. Again I use gloves and a well ventilated area.
