Stripping models

Below is a picture of 4 space marines all stripped of paint the same way.

http://www.dakwan.ca/Image000.jpg

They were all soaked in Easy-off oven cleaner for around 12 hours. After the soak they were scrubed with a toothbrush and soapy water. The cleanest one was picked at with a scapel for probably 15-20 minutes.

I Have GOT to be doing something wrong. Everything i\'ve researched has suggested that easy-off oven cleaner works wonders but this was terrible. I just inherited a large blood angels army that i want to merge with my little dark angels army and at this rate it will be impossible. the three models on the right have got a second bath for 6 hours and didn\'t produce any more results and i can\'t even get the paint off short of shaving plastic. I had slightly better results on metal but not much.

Any ideas why i had such different results on 4 of the same model? any better ideas? If i spend half an hour cleaning a single model (those 1/4 i\'m even able to completly strip) i\'m better off getting a second job and buying them brand new :p

I hear Simple Green works. I have had mixed results with Easy-Off.

Of course when I saw your post titled \"Stripping Models\" I rushed over with my wish list.

Friggin\' disappointing if you ask me. lol

I\'ve not tried the Easy Off route, but I can tell you that I have ahd experiences where aint just did not want to come off . Luckily for me, they were metal minis so I ended up just soakign them in Acetone for a week and they were fine.

I think it hass something to do with the paint they used, how much they used (more is harder to remove cleanly), and how long it\'s been on the mini. Whether they primed the mini or not can have a huge effect as well.

I would say before giving up, try giving them another dunk and let them sita bit longer this time if you can. If is still doesn\'t come off, I\'d say move on to something else. The paint should come off easily, otherwise your using the wrong stuff for the job.

Pine Sol

Pine Sol works wonders. Soak them for a few days, then use an old toothbrush. Repeat as necessary.

Enamel is more difficult than acrylic, but it will all yield.

nitro mors works a dream for me although watch out for the dam strong vapour.

a mate recommend just bog standard paint stripper in a jam jar, glass jar.

Acetone baby, acetone.

None of this leaving it to soak for 13 years in the middle of a pentogram while chanting a black mass. Dip, scrub, paint gone. You can see it coming off! And it only melts plastic if you do the above vaguly satanic ritual.

I think I need sleep...

This is easily the most helpful forum i\'ve ever had the joy of being a part of :)

I\'ll give Acetone a shot i think.

this article seems to have bad luck with plastic and pinesol...

I Originally wanted to go with Simple green over the oven cleaner but i think my area has a simple green shortgage.. 6/6 stores i checked that carried it were all out. Rather sad since i have a proverbial buttload of mini\'s to clean.

But thanks for the advice!

Allright Swordwind, you score an F- :p

Dipped the mini in Acetone started scrubing and was pleased to see the colours just pour off... until his facial features and details flowed off with it. A quick dunk and gentle scrubbing killed 2 brave marines. But now i know ;) perhaps were you diluting the acetone? or it\'s different here in Canada? not sure... but i bought some Simple Green as well so i\'ll give that a go

Nitromors Paint & Varnish Remover from a DIY store strips metal mini\'s back it the bare metal in about 5 min\'s. Just put the mini in the tub you get with it..pour over some Nitromors till its covered have a cupper .. rinse it in cold water.. because it goes nuts if you use hot.. job done. www.tooled-up.com/ManProduct.asp?Referrer=IndexMan&PID=127946
