Stripping models

Firstly I\'m talking about little metal and plastic men not women:p

I have recently purchased a squad of space marines of ebay, some are plastic and some are metal. I have placed some of the metal models in acetone over night to try and remove some of the paint. This normally takes it straight off but it barely has any affect after a good scrub with a tooth brush.

What would be the best thing to use to get this tough paint of plastic and metals that i can get in the uk.

if the metal mini is being a pain in the rear... go to an auto shop (Halfords or similar) and get some Nitromors paint stripper for the metal ones.

I don\'t know What it\'ll do for plastic ones mind... probably eat them.

It\'s just the standard antiseptic disinfectant the one I\'ve used.

I let it soak overnight and then run it under the tap with removes the loosened paint without getting your fingers or the old toothbrush gunky. If it doesn\'t remove all of it then give it another soak, an hour or so and run it under the tap again. You\'ll probably have to scrub the last bits off.

Brake fluid, for plastics and metals, you can\'t go wrong, just remember to wash your hands and be carefull how you dispose of it afterwards. Nice eco friendly stuff it ain\'t

For metals I use a super-strong industrial detergent and leave the minis to soak for about an hour, then I use a pressure washer (on a low power setting) to blast the paint off. A little brushing helps to remove stubborn bits.

It\'s very quick and removes every trace of paint.

For plastics (I\'ve never liked plastic minis) I soak the miniatures in a 50% solution of Dettol antiseptic disinfectant (called Pine-Sol in the USA) for about 48 hours and then pressure wash them. They sometimes have to be re-soaked.

Cake or Death?
I use Castrol\'s \"Superclean.\" It comes in a big purple bottle for about $8. It works on plastic, putty, resin and metal with no problems. Just soak your models overnight, and scrub with an old toothbrush.

Easy Off and Simple Green

My suggestion would be to use Easy Off oven cleaner for any metal and Simple Green for plastic.

Do you know if the miniatures have been varnished? If that is the case, it\'ll change the ball game entirely.

P.S., Simple Green is real nice as it is totally eco-friendly -you just need a longer soak.

Tesco nearby? Any supermarket is likely to stock it.

It\'ll probably be near where you\'d find bleach and possibly also near the section selling plasters if there is one. Anyway, just ask a member of staff if you can\'t spot it.
