Stripping Paint

I use PineSol \'cause I feel okay about emptying it down the drain. But it\'s not that great. Is there a better working alternative that won\'t make me feel guilty about pouring industrial toxins down the drain?

90 degree alcool, I don\'t think it\'s toxique for the environement and you can use it with plastique minis.

Simple Green!

I perfer it to pine-sol. I have had mini\'s soaking in pine-sol for over a week, to no effect. Simple green at most 2-3 days, and that depends on how old the stuff is.

@lurch Thanks for the link! I think I did see that thread but didn\'t notice the \"biodegradable\" when Simple Green was mentioned

@frenchkid : I\'ve got some rubbing alcohol about somewhere. Do you know if that is the same thing?

Thanks for the recomendations. I did a fair bit of internet poking about but most stripper recomendations were for stuff that I didn\'t think could be tossed down the drain.

So the next question, Simple Green is a brand name with a bunch of products. Which one should I be looking for? The All Purpose Cleaner? The Automative Cleaner/Degreaser?

Just go to your local grocery mart and buy a big ol\' bottle of Acetone nail polish remover... Take an old toothbrush, a bowl and the miniatures you want. Soak ONLY the metal parts (plastics will disintegrate) and soak for a minute, then begin brushing the paint out with the toothbrush.

it\'s best if you have two bowls - one bowl filled with the miniatures. Do the majority of the brushing in this bowl. Then rinse off the miniature in the other bowl, getting rid of the small bits left after the general washing.

SO EASY! :D

@ kmdl1066 I use the Simple Green all purpose cleaner. I also use the toothbrush method and I scrub the mini under warm water. It takes it clean off.

I have tried the Nail polish remover as well and I found that while it worked it does not work half as well as Simple Green.

The worst way I was told to remove paint from a mini (by a GW sales git) was to bake it in the oven for about 10 minutes. It ended up slightly melting the mini and I could never get the paint off even after soaking it in S.G. I was told that this was the fastest and easiest way to strip paint. I ended up haveing to toss 2 mini\'s because of it.

Klean-Strip. I will use nothing else. There was a CMON article about it.

Isn\'t that stuff toxic though? I thought I bought a can of it (although it could of been another brand) and while it took the pain off in seconds it burned through the gloves I was wearing.

Nope. Safe and biodegradable.
