Stripping Wiz Kidz?

Impernouncable

Any ideas on what to use? I\'ve got a MK piece soaking in brake fluid now, but after a day the paint will barely come off with a lot of scrubbing.

Oh man.... I read that \"stripping with kids?\" and was horribly disgusted.

If we\'re going to go on like this, we might as well call mini painting \"apply paint to bodies\".

Same Troubles

Ge a hobby knife with a old blade and start peeling the thing off, scrubbing won\'t do especially in tight detailed areas. Most of the time, u have to make a small incesion into the old gunky layer of paint and then careful peel it off.

I am not sure if you are wanting to strip plastic, but if you ever want to strip metal, and fast...like 20 mins fast and a quality strip.

Use LePage Super PolyStripa, this stuff is the end all be alll, I swear on it.

Just so happens I asked the local game store about this a couple of days ago-the owner said that after much trial and error the best thing he found was to just primer over the factory paint job and not worry about stripping.

I suspect that the owner of your local game store might not spend a lot of his time painting...The suggestion is sound, but very unappealing to anyone why is trying to improve the quality, not just add another layer of crap..:D

Hmmm come to think of it I have seen his painting and it isn\'t a great improvement over the Wizkids paint jobs....

I have stripped Wiz Kids toys and posted them on this very site. Just run a search for the word heroclix and they\'ll pop up.

As for the stripping process, first, you have to remove the figure from the base. For this, I used a very shap blade to cut under the soles of the figs, trying not to scratch the dial and at the same time without cutting too much of the rubber the figure is made of (Hint: Easy does it, don\'t rush, and never cut towards yourself).

Once the fig is removed, I dipped it in a photo film container full of acetone (a.k.a nail polish remover). I closed the lid and left it overnight.

Next you need to scrub the paint from the figure using an old toothbrush. That´s all there is to it, really.

You might not need to leave it overnight. Just immerse the figure in acetone (e.g. nail polish remover) for a few seconds or brush it on with an old brush or Q-tip. Then scrub lightly in some way (old toothbrush) and the paint will come right off! The plastic figure will absorb some acetone, becoming a little soft, but leave it to \"dry out\" for a while and it\'ll be ready to prime and paint. The sculpts can be quite nice, albeit usually with some small casting defects.

* Acetone is flammable and a skin irritant. Use in a well-ventilated area. MSDS is here.

stripping!!!

With eucalyptus oil. It works with GW paints, gets a bit messy, leaves it a bit smelly, but it doesn\'t make your skin dissapear. Why doens\'t anyone try stripping with alcohol??

Oh, believe me. Nothing short of acetone or industrial thinner will remove the stuff Wiz Kidz covers their figures with. ;)

Why didn\'t I think of this before?

When stripping anything, I use an electric toothbrush. Saves wear and tear on my arms and hands. :D

I think you mentioned this idea a while ago, and at the time I thought \"duh, that is so obvious!\" Why the heck didn\'t I think of it. Genius Idea!!

Now with the electric toothbrushes very cheap (around 5 bucks) I can afford TWO, one for paint stripping, one for brushing!!

lol

Yipee! The taste was getting terrible after using my only one to brush my teeth, minis, hair, pets, etc.

Hmm. The WizKids gurus seem to suggest Easy-Off oven cleaner (the spray-on kind) because it doesn\'t soften the figures like acetone does. But acetone would certainly work, no doubt of that.
