ive had my minis soaking in nitro mors paint stripper for like 4 hours and it is only taking the paint off on the oder furfaces and isnt touching the stuff in the recesses.. im using a paint brush / tooth brush to scrape the disolved paint off but it wont come out of the recesses, am i doing something wrong? or is there a better product i can use to strip my minis?

Simple Green is what I prefer to use. I dilute it at a 2:1 SG/water ratio and let the mini soak for a couple of hours. Most of the paint will just wash right off in warm water and a toothbrush with a bit of dishsoap will take out the stuff in the recesses.

Sorry. I didn\'t take a moment to see where you were located. My bad. I really need to look at things like that a bit closer. SG is just a type of cleaner.

well my fathers interferance in the paint stripping process just cost the life of my favourite t-shirt as he managed to splash the disolved paint + nitro mors mixture all over my top lol =(

Simple Green is a bit more difficult to get hold of in UK.

I use Dettol (Even diluted it works) in a jar with mini\'s hung in by wire.

Does good job in about 24 hours and safe with my 3 yr old.

Then wash down with old toothbrush in sink filled with soda crystal solution (You need to wear gloves).

Come out cracking, even breaking up glue on joints and bases

Example for you. This is an old Rogue Trader Eldar which had about 8yr old paint on and a mix of enamels and acrylics, together with thick gloss varnish.



If you still have trouble then drop then in acetone - but don\'t put any plastic figures or bases in as they will melt!

well ive gotten through pretty much every toxic paint remover in my fathers collection, which is quite alot, and some pretty nasty stuff, and nothing touches the recesses... resorting to picking up some break fluid later from motorwold and hoping to god it works

ive spent 2 days on this 1 mini so far, and have about 50 left to do lol

I go with the break fluid, plastics, metals, no worries. Just remember not to flush it down the toilet or sink when you\'re through.

I have good success with Pinesol (or any floor cleaner with pine oil). It is cheap and OK to use in a sink with water (although the fumes are potent).

I usually leave the minis submerged for two days, and most if not all the paint will come off with rinsing and a workover with an old toothbrush. Older paintjobs or very thick paint may need a repeat soak or a longer soak (up to a week).

Unfortunately, deep recesses may still have a speck of paint - you may have to get those out with a safety pin or needle.

I have stripped 100\'s of minis now in Detto, very little work and doesnt damage anything too

I uses Triedes method with good success.

At the end I use one of those cheap battery powered toothbrushes, and that even takes care of the recesses.

ive actually been told that soda works, heh im currently testing it out. ive got a few terminators sitting out in some soda, bought these at an auction, and they looked like this guy just dumped paint on them...

Yea but then you would waste good fizzy drink!
And that stuff is almost the price of oil these days! (well maybe not, but to me it is!)

got the minis soaking in some break fluid i picked up today, gona give them 24 hours and see how it goes

for the soda (caustic soda - not baking or carbonated drink) try oven cleaner

Over here, it is EZ-Off (original, not the fume free stuff)

Hose them down and let them sit over night, rinse & toothbrush (the cheap battery powered ones are great) - acrylics, enamels and primers do not stand a chance against it.

well over 24 hours covered in break fluid and a good tooth brush scrubbing with hot soapy water and the break fluid is no better than anything else ive tried, only takes the stuff off the flatt surfaces... seems that nothing will even touch the recesses of a painted mini...

what am i doing wrong? i need these stripped asap

i posted a similar forum not too long ago and someone told me about simple green. I looked it up on line and found that wal-mart carried it, but when I went there, all they had was a cleaner called \"mean green super-strength cleaner and degreaser.\" It was only $1.74 for a 32 oz bottle so i figured what the heck.

I soaked about 50 minis that I had in it full strength and used a toothbrush to scrub them to remove the paint. the ones that were just primered (not painted) came off alot easier than the painted ones, but with some diligence the painted ones came clean too.

A few things I learned:

1) use a stiff-brissled tooth brush.
2) when you scrub with a toothbrush, bubbles formed and that reduced the friction. regularly dipping the brush in clean water kept the cleaner from building up and helped the scrubbing process
3) when a fig has been soaking and doesn\'t respond well to scrubbing, soak it an extra day (that made the difference for me)
