Stripping

oook. I got first edition howling banshees off ebay. Whoever owned them first, primed them, apparently by dipping in a bucket of some white stuff and then let them dry. Primer was extremely thick and uneven. After 2 days in pinesole I managed to remove about 70% of this junk but the remaining pretty much screwed up all small details.

Problem was solved by soaking them for about an hour in acetone. This \"primer\" changed color immediately upon contact with acetone (become yellow), and came off easily after a rub it a bit with a sponge. (and it also cleaned up all primers from my hands :)))

Acetone is good for oil/solvent based paints (enamels). Finger nail polish remover is mostly acetone if you cannot fine a can of the real stuff.

Latex paints do not do much in acetone.
Check in the hardware areas for paint remover. There are several types depending on the type of paint you are removing.

I still swear by EZ-Off oven cleaner.

A dental pick may be required for the final clean up in the deepest creases.

I use Citrus Based antique furnature strippers.

Soak em in there for a day or so and everything slips off, including stuff that was glued on.

Course the house absolutely stinks of Oranges for weeks afterwards.lol

lol Dude, I guess he\'s looking for the kinda stripping where people sowly remove their clothes, and I\'m not sure that anyone\'s willing to help.

Did you try sticking them back in the brake fluid for longer, patience is the word.

steelcult, Oranges, sounds kinda nice, better than brake fluid anyway.

break fluid got most of it off, just the crevices i had to attack with a sharp pointy metal thing to get the crap out

seems like good stuff tbh, will use again

Hubba new what I was referring to, guess I\'m not the only one whose mind is in the gutter.

:D

although speaking of stripping, I was watching beerfest yesterday, and now I can\'t get the Barry character out of my head: \"It\'s a dollar to look at it, two dollars to touch it. Three dollars to touch it while I touch my toes, four dollars to touch it while I touch your toes.....\"

Personally I use turpentine for stripping metal parts. It leaves the metal more smooth. For me after washing the mini in Acetone the mini looked like the dog bit it :]

For the Plastics I use some lighter substancess

I see some people mention using Dettol to strip miniatures...huh?! I\'ve tried this before, it dosent do anything at all, might as well have sat them in water all night!
I was using UK Dettol mind you.

I\'ve experimented with a lot of different things to strip paint, currently I use Locktite paint stripper to get the paint off metal mini\'s, it works in only a few minutes and after a quick wash and toothbrush their ready to paint! It dissolves plastics though.

Never had a problem stripping minis with Dettol. Use the real stuff not the knock down cheaper supermarket \"Own Brand\"version.
My wife\'s even managed to get paint off a shirt with Dettol, removed household gloss paint of a pottery ornament as well.
Mini\'s we leave overnight totally immersed and then washed off with warm warter. Realy stubborn areas might need persuasion with a tooth brush/tooth pick.

I would give them a second doing . I find filling my sink with warm water then dropping the minis in after they have been in nitro mors then attacking them with the tooth brush greatly helps.
