Studio mcvey going :(

well they are closing it because of no interest in Sedition Wars and no forum is really needed for the limited resins.
Studio McVey will go on, but doing sculpting for other companies (cmon for example). Some they do are the "Others: 7 sins", "Blood Rage" for example.

Sadly they said, that the limited resins are put on hold for a while. I really liked them, but then again, they take away resources from the other sculpting jobs and it looks like they are not really selling (some of the later sculpts took more then a year to sell).

I hope they don't go completely bust, they have some nice stuff, hopefully the income from sculpting for other games will be enough to let them still release the limited resins in the future

It's kind of understandable the limited resins don't sell too well, I feel the display model part of the hobby is a niche in itself, other companies manage by making more generic stuff but the studio McVey ones look quite unique and not easily usable for game systems, that as d I also don't want to have to fork out for a whole game just for a handful of models I like the look of

doesn't explain why it takes about 30 minutes top to sell 500 KD resin minis. Even the non-pinups (like the black knight this month).
Sculpting and casting wise the quality is the same for both companies.

Perhaps the popularity of KD draws in more people than sedition wars does for studio mcvey? Or simply a matter of tastes

Or people are just buying KD for 'sell on' purposes and dont really care about painting them etc.

Now that you mention it it's kinda weird - they were one of the companies i always looked at, but never bought from. There are just too many and keeping up and buying all i like would bankrupt me or leave me drowning in minis. I have been buying less and less these days. Maybe the market is reaching it's saturation point.

Im sad that Studio McVey is going out of business for its self but pleased they will still be producing minis for other people. Its a truism that there is NO money worth speaking of in the boutique mini market. Its done by geeks like you and me who love what they do but unless your going to sell vast volumes like GW then forget riches it just aint gonna happen.

I think if you are just making display minis for the most part, a large line of historical a is required, with fantasy minis as the second tier. Pegaso, Andrea, and many more. Scale 75 isn't a primary historical line but the success of their paints keep them very competitive. KD belongs to a game but survived for years without its production. They are a bit of an anomaly. The originality of their work drives a lot of that I am sure. Mierce minis benefits from the same situation IMO. They used many of the best sculptors in the game. Anyway not sure of my point. I hate to see any mini company go under but I was never the biggest fan of their minis. I found their Game of Thrones line very aesthetically displeasing. :(
