\'Subject 42 has escaped\'...again!

Hi all


Ok, I\'m re-photographing and re-submitting some of my past minis due to my now having a decent monitor and being able to actually put up some decent pics (hopefully!)

This was my \'Subject 42 has escaped\' model which was entered in the Salute painting comp in April.

It\'s based on the Kraken Editions \'Carlos\' model and has a load of little touches added. The pipes and tubes are of course added, as is the torn piece of metal in his right hand.

The papers on the base are made from tin foil, there is also a (barely visible) custom made brass etch scalpel on the base too.

Nice one, I have him and Furgol ready to be painted. I can\'t stand that orange peel lipped head though.

I still don\'t think your photo is accurate but it is better than the last attempt.

The flesh is nice on this model.

When you mention tin foil for the paper please could you give more info on how you work with this/where you get it (art source?). Thanks.

Where I get it?!.... Asda!



It\'s just kitchen foil... has the advantage of being a very thin (scale paper thickness almost) sheet material but that can be shaped and will stay in shape.

Once painted it tends to hold it\'s shape even better too.

It\'s unfortunately somewhat hard to apply once it\'s cut into small pieces, it is like trying to stick down air

it does look like it\'s lacking contrast mate, especialy on the face.
bruising and some cuts around the wrist where the manackle is would probably add a lot to that part of the model, enfasising the struggle the creature has gone through to free itself.
the lower lip could do with more colour as well.

i know this stuff is picky and i know that your pics often hide a lot of what is actualy on the model, just thought i would throw them your way.

I really like the skincolour! As some others have noted a bit more contrast perhaps. Got this mini in the mail some time ago and I am contemplating which head to use. This one is a bit strange I guess but so is the miniature.

Cool - that\'s what I thought I was reading - but wanted to check. I can imagine that is not fun to glue.
What about it getting creased? I guess you wouldn\'t want to do this too much.

Do you spray prime it like everything else?

It actually creases a bit like paper at that scale so it\'s not too bad... you don\'t really want it perfectly flat.

IIRC it was indeed spray primed white after being attached to the base, though on other models I\'ve used it on I seem to recall adding the foil paper after the model was primed and priming the paper by hand with a brush... but that\'s a b*tch as you kinda have to shape it as you prime it because it\'s pretty easy to accidentlayy bend it out of shape with a brush... though once the heavier primer has dried it keeps it much more rigid.
