A real challenge...?

you know... that thing about having a unconverted space marine painting contest is a real groovy idea :D It would certainly be a real challenge to make the boring stuff interesting...... I wonder if we can have one sometime soon? ;)

It only occurred to me because I bought a simple, old, painted Space Marine the other day from one of those old magical, timeless modelshops - the sort that has more stock than can physically be crammed into the space available. This mini had obviously been in the display case for years \'cos it was still thick with dust. There was something about it that appealed however, despite the $30 (ish) pricetag. When I got it home and dusted it off I found it was a real work of art. It was painted to a level I could never achieve, and yet nothing special had been done to it in terms of conversion, basing etc. It occured to me then that painting a basic Space Marine was probably the ultimate challenge because you can\'t use \'smoke and mirrors\' everyone knows the cast like the back of their hand - everyone has probably painted dozens themselves... I suspect that only real skill would prevail. It would be a nice idea although, it would definitely be a challenge for the real pros out there, I struggle to obtain even basic tabletop standard:flip:

skeletons...

ohhh...I forgot about those poor fleshless guys...

Yup! They\'re definitely easy!

Basecoat black, drybrush bleached bone, wash with flesh/brown ink, highlight with bleached bone+skull white (50-50) with a final highlight of white. Easy. lol

I thought the mageknight painters edition will be a great start.. before u guys go WWHOOOA !

wait a miniute, you will be surprised the level of detailing in it is quite good (except maybe you do know what u will be getting), a booster of this have 4 minis, and for like SGD9.00 (USD5.00) it\'s cheap and a good start.

Anyone seen it before or own some of them ?

I also can remember the first few minis I painted when i was like 14 years old, and the worst part is it\'s the four plastic minis I paint that\'s from a Dungeon Quest board game (the paint was horrid, I don\'t know how to get the paint off, and I threw the minis away in the end!!),

I later played the game with subsituted figs...aarrggghhh !

unconverted marines...

That is a kickass idea. Unconverted rank and file space marines would make a badass contest mini. Not only that, but it would be a pretty easy thing to organize (who doesn\'t have a basic bolter marine sitting around in their bitz box someplace???)
