Suggestions needed!!

I\'m painting a samurai and would like his swords edge to stand out. My question is:
Is there any way to brighten metallic colours?I\'m using Mithril silver and this is the lightest metallic i can find. I\'ve tried some white but that merely looks chalky.
Any suggestions anyone?

Not too sure how well this will work but maybe paint the edge white, then water down the silver and put a layer of that over it.

yep, that works. underpaint your metallics. i assume you want your edge to be lighter than mithril because you painted the rest of the blade in mithril -bad idea painting wise (for the reason you have just discovered), and it doesnt fit with an actual katana. many are matte, or darker, with a lighter \"hamon\" or edge.

next time start with a base of chainmail/boltgun mix, shade with boltgun/black, and hilight with mithril.

Or, you could take a dark blue/blue black, wash the entire blade, then go back when that is dry and do the edge with the mithril silver. Thats the quickest way I\'ve found to do it.

vallejo metallic medium is lighter than mithril.

highlight as normal then add metalic medium for the last highlight.

use washes to change the tones and shade, then touch up your final highlights.

I tried that once and was very disappointed by the result. The metal turned a dull greyish color.

I think you should work more on your contrasts and if that\'s not enough, you should get some Humbrol silver, they have a very shiny variant (Allan uses this often when he does metalics).
