Suggestions on colour?

Hi all,

I'm trying to build a terrain piece with some different shading and highlights than what I'd normally do. Here are some pics:

As you can see, the gray areas are pretty boring.

I'd appreciate any suggestions on colours which might make the grays a bit more vibrant, preferably in terms of highlights, or patterning. I've tried veining the grays, similar to the black columns, but the overall effect was a massive cobweb - not one of my better ideas.

Cheers!

i adore the way that´s looking=) if i was looking to give that more vibrant colourings, i´d go from hot to warm colours, from the brownish yellows on the base to the turquoise you allready got in there. it´s tricky tho, and i´m crap at big surfaces, so i guess i´m nt the right guy to come with ideas on this kind of stuff;)

are there going to be any figures with it? If so work in some of the same colors from the figures into the base to keep harmony with the whole scene. Also work in some blues and purples with your grey and even some warm colors as ischa pointed out. That looks like a big project I hope you keep us updated.

There will, indeed, be a fig on the apex of the steps - the new Chaos Nurgle Lord. However, I was experimenting with having cold, turquoise colours on the base, but the fig's armour will be brown-red, with a tinting of purple-pink on the flesh; the idea was that the warm colours on the fig would draw the eye to it against a colder background.

The grays were shaded with turquoise and black-greens and purples, then highlighted with a light shadow gray and Space Wolf Gray. I might try a further glaze of blue over the gray.

Any other suggestions? I'm quite open to more experimentation.
