OK - don\'t tell my other thread this but I\'m getting kinda sick of assembly line painting 40 boyz. Not sick enough to give\'em up but enough to start something else - kinda like a reward for getting another tedious round of skin tones done. As my \"reward\" I\'ve chosen to finally paint a Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka model.

I\'ve had two of them for a number of years and haven\'t painted them because I really wanted to get better at painting before I tackled this big guy and do it justice. I feel that I can do it now after finishing the Shokk Attack Gun Big Mek and it went well.

Sooo.... Here\'s the obligatory starting shot. I\'ve cleaned up the parts - filed, sanded, and washed.I\'ve used poster putty to cover the furfaces that will be glued to each other so I won\'t have to scrape the primer off later.

Well, finally put some paint on this guy. Starting with the head. When painting the skin on him, I though \"sheeze, for Gazghkull, this head seems mighty small.\" Then I compared it with the last head I did, the AoBR Warboss, and the warboss\' head is zoggin\' \'uge! Makes gazkull a mere nob in size. Anyway.

Skin, tounge and gums done. Piccies to follow. And for the inevitable questions...

Skin: Black primer, Dark Angels Green, Goblin Green, DA Green/Bleached Bone, Dark Angels wash, Bleached Bone highlights.

looks like a good beginning. i always paint the head last myself. i reckon i get better as i go so that owuld make the head the best part at the end. the greens are nice, but i feel they could use a wash to push em\' back a bit. man imagine your boyz and my boyz togetha\'. now that would be a fun game. after all da evil sunz r\' betta since red makes us go fasta.\' lookin\' forward to seeing more.

Hey rosac - took two quick (and a little blurry) shots fo the head size differences. Interesting that the new generic warboss head is bigger than Gazzy.

Spent some time on Gazghkull tonight (yay! no speed painting!). Finished off the head and started the giant iron gob. I took lots of photos for a step by step of how I did his jaw. I blocked out the check area with Deneb Stone first as it\'s easier to put the Skull White over that. After I put the Deneb down I realized I didn\'t want the checks to come all the way up to the teeth, I wanted a visual seperation between them so I painted black down to where I wanted it.

Then I did the teef. Based Mechrite Red then blended thtrough > Scab Red >Red Gore > Blodo Red. Then a wash of Badab Black on the ribets. I always underestimate Badab Black so I had a lot of cleanup to bring the blends back to the Blood Red. From there it\'s Blood Red > Fiery Orange.

And here\'s where I\'m left after tonight. Extreme closeups are always harsh but I wanted to show the nity gritty\'s here. I think he\'s looking pretty good so far.

Sometimes I feel so stupid. I hadn\'t realized the bionic eye wasn\'t painted until someone pointed it out. Sheesh!

Well, I \"finished\" up the head and iron gob tonight. I\'ve also spent 30 minutes agonizing over what color to paint his pants. Blue or Brown? Is that so hard? Anyone else like that? Anyhoo...

I\'ve place the head and gob on the body piece for photos below. The edges of the iron gob, particularly where it attaches to the armor, have places where the paint is being rubbed off as I handle it so I\'ll just leave it for now and touch it up after attaching it.

This guy is a tricky piece to paint since he\'s in so many parts. It doesn\'t help that the primer is rubbing off on the very high spots so that\'s making me be very creative to how I\'m going to piece/paint him. I think I\'ll get most of the bottom and very internal (to the body) parts painted, then glue the torso/legs together and then temporarily superglue him down to the base so I can paint the rest of him without holding on to the body itself. Still not sure what to do when I\'m doing hte arms.....

Without further ado, not much different than two days ago, but small progress is better than no progress, right?

lookin good man. i especially love the metal marks on the red teef. have you thought about adding a bit of fiery orange and dark flesh together (for rust effect)and then lightly drybrushing it on the bottom of the checks? i think it might give it a bit more flair and connect it with the reds on the teef.

by the way what process do you use for the metallics you put on the teeth.

Thanks uber. I thought about doing a \"dripping\" rust effect but I\'m afraid of it becoming too much weathering. i.e. looks relly good in a photo but get\'s lost and muddy looking at arms length. I hadn\'t thought about adding some to the edges of the chin though - maybe I\'ll try that.

The metals on the teef are Chaos Black (for shape)>Chaos Black/Bolt Gun Metal>Bolt Gun Metal>Devlin Mud (over entire jaw - except teeth)> very light Bolt Gun Touch up (only in center of marks)> Chainmail only on the very edges of the teeth to accentuate them from the rest of the metal - make it stand out more.

its looking very good. i mite even be tempted to go and buy some 40K orc\'s myself i never painted 40K stuff before but you and uber have put that eliment of antisipation in my mind
